Does it really matter how fast a V6 sedan family car can get up to 60 MPH? Sure it's fun to smoke that stock Tiburon / Celica / Mustang V6 / 80s Corvette / etc. and see the look on their face, but in the end you just look stupid, especially when a real performance car pulls up.

If someone in a Camry, Altima, or Accord commented on their car's power compared to my Fusion, I'd laugh. What are they trying to prove? If I wanted something fast, I sure as hell wouldn't be in a Fusion, Altima, Accord, or Camry.

This exactly.

The 0-60 doesn't seem important anymore. Even my Corolla gets up to 60 fast enough that merging onto a highway is never a problem. What I want to see are stats for how quickly it goes from 60mph to 100mph. This would tell you how easily the vehicle can pass other vehicles on the highway.

That Ford Tempo I mentioned wouldn't even have a 60-100mph time because the vehicle's top speed with the pedal to the floor was 140km/h or 88mph. The thing was barely fast enough to travel back in time.

Not to mention you're getting pretty craptacular mpg if you're constantly putting your foot in it. I cruise at 72ish mph and average about 40 MPG per tank right now

I'm going to agree with you again, my car same thing, going 65-70mph on a 500 mile road trip to D.C. netted a 43mpg round trip average, even with all the hills/inclines/small mountains in the Appalachians .

Now that I have a really fuel efficient car I could care less about 0-60 times...and I know my car has plenty of passing oopmh as I'm sure PhoKingGuy's does as well.

Because as ShawnD1 said it's a 50mph to 70mph speed or whatever that really determines passing and whatnot...I drive probably 70% highway miles and when I need to pass, I definitely don't want to feel like I have to put the pedal through the floor just to pass someone.

I'm totally addicted to diesel engines now, the way the TDI is geared is phenomenal. Theres gobs of torque down low for city driving and it pulls from 60-85 mph as well.

Car and Driver clocked the same 07 SE V6 at 5.8 seconds. These tests seem to have some variation amongst testers and methods.

Even that doesn't best even the manual 928 S4, let alone the Testarosa.

In any case, no-one is denying that even family cars are faster than they've ever been. I simply pointed out something that seemed fishy in that article.

LMAO. This thread is hilarious.

Headlights - blame your government?

Clock - who cares?

Traction control - LOL. You think $15k Corollas allow you to turn off traction control? You'd be lucky to find a high performance sedan that lets you do this.

Highway - like all POS 4 bangers. Should have gotten something else.

Strange OEM remote - Waaaaaaaaah

Locking doors/Unlocking doors - ALL Toyotas have these. Learn to use Park when you are actually going to be PARKING. Or, there are a few things called NEUTRAL and Brakes.

Bing Bing Bing - Blame the laws for this shit. Or Microsoft.

So much fail here, where to start....

I have a new car and I can turn the lights on/off as I want and the seatbelt light doesn't make ANY sounds, just a red light on the instrument panel. I can also turn off the traction control, JUST like I could on my 2003 Mazda6 sedan (by no means an expensive car). Regarding the clock, some people like to know the time while driving their car (sure, big deal) but a poor choice in placing the clock for the driver to see is engineering 101 failure.

Does it matter what car you drive at all?

The Camry drivers are the ones laughing because they know very well how underclassed your Fusion is. Worst in class acceleration, interior, features (lol @ your reflector headlights) etc. I suppose if you spent $5k less, it doesn't really matter.

Yea, if you wanted something fast, you would be in an M3, XF-R, CTS-V, E63, C63, RS6, etc. Yea, if you wanted something fast and could afford it in a 4 door in the $50K range.

Congrats, you just picked out every male person out there with their "dream car". Or you can live in the real world and pay mortgages and bills and drive a regular car, but hey, wanting something fast in a $30k sedan is blasphemy right? Hah, talk to Mazda - their whole existence is based on the market for wanting something fast in a cheap or practical package.

What, are you going to make fun of the Pontiac G8 "family sedans" because they will kill your car in every aspect (except fuel economy probably) while being roomier and heavier and bigger.

Of course, they have something prove to you and your Fusion! That MUST be the only reason!

And what exactly do you drive? Oh RIGHT, the 370Z. It would be PATHETIC if you couldn't turn off traction control. Whooptee effing do, Nissan doesn't follow State and/or Federal LAW regarding the seatbelt warnings. *Insert clapping smiley here*

It does matter to a lot of people, myself included, which is why I have a V6 family sedan. And I still enjoy driving it. It's a decade old and I still enjoy flooring it through its gears. I cannot have a sports-type vehicle, I don't even have the garage space for it. This is the best it's gonna get.

If you had read my post, you would have noticed I could disable the traction control on my Mazda as well. If you want more PROOF (and not just heresay like you provide) the Kia rental car I recently drove ALSO had the ability to disable the traction control. That was a Kia Optima, probably cheaper than most Toyotas.

You=Fail.

Disabled doesn't necessarily mean totally disabled, though. Many of these systems will let you "disable" them, but they are still watching, and will come back on if they decide conditions warrant it.

My Jeep has 3 stages. Full on/partial disable/full disable. Depending on how you press the button, and if you are in 4low or not.

I noticed the clock, highway performance, and unlocking thing when I was test driving the Corolla a couple months ago. Although it wasn't the getting to highway speed that got to me.. it just felt very unstable at highway speeds. Maybe I'm just very used to the G35 I drive.

My mom ended up buying a Mazda 3 hatchback instead.
