Motherboard is ASUS P4P800 deluxe. P4C 2.6GHz; 2X512MB Kingston DDR400; 9600 pro; Audigy2 ZS; 80GB SATA HD; 40GB PATA HD; NEC3500 DVD; XP SP2; 350W Fortron.
Had setup for a year.
Not overclocked. Passes memtest and prime95 overnight. CPU idles at 30C and loaded at 46C.
Three weeks ago, added the Audigy2 sound card. Two days after that, added the MX510 red optical mouse. Four days ago, added the NEC DVD drive.
Occasionally, when I start the computer, it goes through post and the XP logo and then the welcome screen with the hour glass. Then, the hour glass changes to an arrow and it freezes there. I have waited once for 5 minutes and it was still stuck! This problem startd only after adding the mouse.
I am not sure that it is the mouse because it does not happen all the time. It happens about once in every 10 boots.
I have had the problem with the mouse driver from the Logitech site installed as well as with no drivers installed (using the XP drivers).
I have tried boot logging and have the log for when the boot has frozen and also for when it has succeeded. There is no difference!
Is there a way to confirm 100% that it is the mouse that is the cause of the problem? If not the mouse, what could be the cause?
Has anybody had this problem?
Please make suggestions! Thanks, Navid
