Sometimes, like some of the recent Patriot victories (i.e. the 1-2 close games per decade). The World Cup is more like the NCAA basketball tournment than the Super Bowl - just replace school pride with insane nationalism...for example, I'm going to be in Rome during the USA-Italy match - going to be absolute craziness...

not as exiting for americans cuz they don't dominate, also there is little sense of national pride in the US it's more regional/state pride.

It's like the day of mourning after England finds out they won't host the WC. Tough for your tournament to be over before it starts.

There were threads on bigsoccer.com about those games as if they were live. Quite hilarious if you are savvy enough to get the jokes... :D

I really don't care if we dominate or not. Our womens team won the WC a few years back but I didn't watch any of the games. It was cool that they won but it didn't raise my interest in soccer. According to the Nike commercials the US is ranked 5th in the world. That may not be dominant but it's certainly elite. And you know what? I still don't care.

Soccer is booooooring.....

Why even click into a thread about the World Cup? It is obvious you had only 1 thing to say regardless of what questions were asked. If it is boring to you, you may as well not waste any more of your time reading about it

Heh. I was just on soccernet watching all the commercials one last time. They added the new US commercial. I saw it on tv earlier today.

Sucks about Michael Ballack, since they have a match tomorrow and for Gerrard for that matter.

I'm excited about the World Cup... I just signed up for a fantasy team for it, I added these players... I have one more selection what do you think?

1. GK - Keller (USA)
2. GK - Zaid (KSA)
3. GK - Jevric (SCG)
4. D - Nesta (ITA)
5. D - Cole (ENG)
6. D - Terry (ENG)
7. D - Roberto (BRA)
8. D - Gavrancic (SCG)
9. D - Onyewu (USA)
10. M - Nedved (CZE)
11. M - Ronaldinho (BRA) (duh?)
12. M - Zidane (FRA)
13. M - Ballack (GER)
14. M - Beasley (USA)
15. M - Gerrard (ENG)
16. M - Essien (GHA)
17. F - Baros (CZE)
18. F - Henry (FRA)
19. F - Raul (ESP)
20. F - Ronaldo (BRA)
21. F - Toni (ITA)
22. F - Pauleta (POR)

so who should my last pick be? I'm only allowed 3 players per team.... so any player from Brazil, USA, and England are out. Any ideas?

Somoene posted their theory as to why Americans don't follow soccer. I chimed in with my own reason to challenge the stereotype put forth by the poster. Nothing more, nothing less.

I took the day off to watch the games. Going to a friend's house for a party. Not sure why I'm up at this hour though. I think I'm going to go back and take a 30 minute nap.

GO USA!
