I took the day off to watch the games. Going to a friend's house for a party. Not sure why I'm up at this hour though. I think I'm going to go back and take a 30 minute nap.

GO USA!

I wish I could...worldcup.com gamecast @work ftw!

What is this gamecast of which you speak?

So now that Gerrard will be out...who will England play next to Lampard? Hargreaves or Jenas? Maybe move over Joe Cole and play Downing at left wing? Wasn't Gerrard going to play up to support Owen in a more forwardish position? This seems like it might be a tactical issue for England...

edit: then again, he will probably play since he says 50-50

He should be playing apparently, but if not I would personally play Hargreaves to allow Lampard to go forward. The plan to play Gerrard in the forward role was if Rooney wasn't fit and before Crouch made himself a must pick player.

world cup soccer is 100x more exciting than basketball/baseball

Have you seen an NBA game? Those guys are much more athletic than any 5 foot something Brazilian player and the best soccer players in the world (Henry/Eto'o/Ballack).

Yeah, it takes such skill to be a 6'9" freak of nature and dick around until 2 minutes is left in the game and then "try" while the time outs and fouls destroy any continuity of the game.

I'm guessing you haven't seen an NBA game.

In my eyes, Crouch is not a must pick player by any stretch. A couple good performances in friendlies doesn't make him a guaranteed selection. I am with you on the Hargreaves thing though.

As for the impending basketball/football/curling is better than soccer argument: we don't care. Don't read the thread if you dont like soccer. Thanks.

Seen plenty. Basketball doesnt require all that much athleticism. It requires height and some eye hand cordination. there are great athletes in the NBA but its not exciting to watch. Any fool can take a ball with his hands and make precision passes and shots.

If Rooney was fuly fit then he would obviously be in the team in Crouch's position - I don't think Crouch is in the same class but certainly he deserves his chance in the group games and will cause defenders a lot of problems.

I'm really disappointed about the backlash there seems to be against Hargreaves in the English media, maybe it's because he plays his football in Germany but he deserves a chance playing in his proper position for more than 45 mins.

I'd like to see you try it with Ben Wallace in your face.

Are you frickin kidding me? How many timeouts and game stoppages do you have in a basketball game? How many times can a bball player get a sub to come in for him when he gets tired.

No timeouts in soccer. when you get subbed out, your ass aint coming back in.

Yeah bring ben wallace and his bad-ass attitude into a soccer game. He'll get a red card and sit out the following game.
