Security Brief: Radical Islamic Web site takes on 'South Park'

The radical Islamic Web site Revolutionmuslim.com is going after the creators of the TV cartoon series "South Park" after an episode last week included an image of the Prophet Mohammed in disguise.

Revolutionmuslim.com, based in New York, was the subject of a CNN investigation last year for its radical rhetoric supporting “jihad” against the West and praising al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Its organizers insist they act within the law and seek to protect Islam.

On Sunday, Revolutionmuslim.com posted an entry that included a warning to South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone that they risk violent retribution – after the 200th episode last week included a satirical discussion about whether an image of the prophet could be shown. In the end, he is portrayed disguised in a bear suit.

The posting on Revolutionmuslim.com says: “We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.”

Theo van Gogh was a Dutch filmmaker who was murdered by an Islamic extremist in 2004 after making a short documentary on violence against women in some Islamic societies. The posting on Revolutionmuslim.com features a graphic photograph of Van Gogh with his throat cut and a dagger in his chest.

The entry on Revolutionmuslim.com goes on to advise readers:

“You can contact them [the makers of South Park], or pay Comedy Central or their own company a visit at these addresses …” before listing Comedy Central’s New York address, and the Los Angeles, California, address of Parker and Sloane’s production company.

Contacted by CNN, the author of the post, Abu Talhah al Amrikee, said that providing the addresses was not intended as a threat to the creators of South Park but to give people the opportunity to protest.

Over still photographs of Parker, Stone, van Gogh and others, the Web site runs audio of a sermon by the radical U.S.-born preacher Anwar al-Awlaki, who is now in hiding in Yemen. The sermon, recorded some time ago, talks about assassinating those who have “defamed” the Prophet Mohammed – citing one religious authority as saying “Harming Allah and his messenger is a reason to encourage Muslims to kill whoever does that.” U.S. officials say al-Awlaki is on a list of al Qaeda leaders targeted for capture or assassination.

The clip ends with a warning on a graphic directed at Parker and Stone, saying “The Dust Will Never Settle Down.”

Al Amrikee said the purpose of including the al-Awlaki sermon in his posting was to remind Muslims that insulting the prophet is a severe offense for which the punishment in Islam is death. He said RevolutionMuslim may hold protests about the show.

Calls to Comedy Central were not returned.

It sounds a bit puerile to say "ban religion". I think what we need to do is make it illegal to teach religion to children. If I were to tell you I could fly, you'd laugh, or maybe ask me to sell you some LSD. But if I told a child I could fly, they'd ask me how high. It is childrens' naivete that allows religious indoctrination to spread from one generation to the next in an unending chain. By breaking this cycle we can free the world of its idiocy and progress as a species.

I honestly can't respond to this post without wanting to blurt out 4 letter words.

Matt and Trey may have suspected the danger they were placing themselves and their families in, but I honestly think they realize the full impact of angering the lunatics.

It would have been worse if he was dressed up as a pig, and im sure the thought crossed thier minds of doing it. Besides that, Jesus is shown on there, Moses, Buddha, Vishnu...I dont think anyone except Muhammed has not been shown yet at one time or another since no other religion cries about it [as much] and definately doesnt have a track record of killing over it or threatening to kill over it..

I say show Muhammed without a suit in one of the next episodes, then send a box of tampons to Revolutionmuslim.com paid for by Matt and Tray.

He was and he wasnt shown...Matt and Trey intended to show Muhammed [with no suit or anything] during the last bit of that episode but Comedy central censored his image out at the last moment, on live TV atleast. So all that was viewable was a moving black box of Muhammed, which conforms to what Muslims want. Showing him in a Bear suit is a copout to, its not really showing him.

Seeing as the Execs censored previous episodes im sure that is why they just put him in a suit now, since Comedy Central's history is that of pandering to crybabies [crybabies who will likely kill you at that].

Anyone touches Matt and Trey and we'll drive the Muslims out of this country. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.

How ridiculous. If Matt and Trey had the ability I'm sure they'd show an episode featuring nothing but all major religious figures having an orgy together that would make 2 girls 1 cup seem tame.

And I'd applaud them for it.

Free speech FTW.

Afraid to call it like it is? The problem is Islam, clear and simple.
Many things and governments have to happen before Islam is banned on Western land, however the Muslims are making great efforts to accelerate this process. If it keeps the direction its going, it won't be too long.

But piss on a picture of Jesus and its good comedy that deserves to be protected! If liberals spent 1/10th the time criticizing radical Islam as they do mainsteam christianity this would would be a better place.

Tell me, just for the sake of conversation, how would criticizing Muslims more make America a better place?

It will show that the violent tactic used by Islam to impair free speech don't hold on US soil. If this is not sending out a message to the radicals, then I don't know what is.

By bending to the will of a small, stupid, violent and unrealistic minority we will lose our pride and sense of self.

What's he's saying is if the loony left protected the desecration of islam like it protects the desecration of Christianity, America would be a better place, but as it is the loony left goes out of their way to applaud the desecration of Christianity while remaining sensitive to the desecration of the religion of pieces.

Has that been a big problem here? I tend to think that they probably face more violence due to their religious beliefs than we due to those beliefs.

When we have had to deal with their violence, we reacted appropriately, we went after them, overthrew the government that was protecting them and tried to kill as many of them as possible.
