As for my opinion, I'm an individualist. I don't blame nor hold responsible an entire religion because they can't control their extreme rogue fringe element. An element which, btw, consistenly violates the tenets of their faith in the name of their faith (more irony). So I blame the individuals who actually commit the atrocities, not all Muslims. Or would you blame all Christians for the past atrocities of the IRA? And considering that most of the world sees the USA every bit as much as a "Christian nation" as they see Iraq as a "Muslim nation," would you then lump the US into the IRA's crimes as well?
Ah well, the most ironic part of this whole thing is that Mohammed probably would take one of those Miss World ladies to marry. He was kinda randy like that, had quite a number of wives (which was a common and accepted practice of the day). The reporter was right, and a lot of innocent people got killed because the truth was spoken. Very sad.

"Christian" nations, and other non-muslim nations are capable of being tolerant of other nations who dont share their primary religions. Muslims do not. Nearly every muslim nation that borders a non muslim nation has problems. Its been referred to as the "border of fire". Their is no other religion that carries intollerent followers TO THE EXTENT that Islam does. The only real moderat muslim nation is Turkey. Pretty much the rest of them fo have high profile radicals that have enough of a voice to cause problems. Nigeria rioits kill 50, hundreds held hostage in russian theatre, dozens die in suicide bus attack, hundreds die in explosion in bali... The common thread to all these is Islam. And these are just a few. Now im sure others can name "terrorist" attack by the IRA and other Non muslims, but really, is anything really to the extent to what these people have done and will continue doing??

Isnt it ironic how many innocent people have been killed in the name of a religion that teaches to respect thy brother. Maybe a lot of Muslims are illiterate, or more likely there is a strong message in the Koran that Islam is the only real religion and everyone should be muslim or be killed.

As bad as it sounds, many countries have very strict rules/laws for the use of "deadly force", ours included.
What did they expect? I wonder whose bright idea it was to hold a beauty pageant in an Islamic country.
I'll preface by saying I haven't read any posts here, so I might be repeating something. First off, your title is false, they killed fifty people in response to an article that suggested that Islam's founding prophet would have approved of the pageant. You make it sound like they killed contestants and bystanders at the actual event. Killing people is stilling killing people, but don't try to cause more sensationalism than is warranted. That being said.....
There is no doubt in my mind that the followers of Islam are more violent than thier christian counterparts. There is no mystery that Islam tends to lend itself to fanaticism more than Christianity, it does. But this has nothing to do with the actual religion. Sorry, I wish it were that easy to explain, but its not. You need to look at several things to understand why so many violent things happen in the name of Islam. Please remember that I am not making an excuse for them, but am just explaining why it is happening.
First, it is a fact that Islam is very popular in very POOR parts of the world. This doesn't mean Islam is a poor man's religion, but we all know of the problem's in third world countries. Crime, high birth rates, disease, starvation, and war are a daily part of peoples lives in these parts of the world and it eats away at thier humanity. I would argue that almost none of us here can even imagine the thought process of a person who has seen nothing but death and destruction his or her entire life, me included.
Second, Islam is a very potent political force in these countries. In short, seperation of church and state does not exist, and it shows. EVERY religion that has been a huge political factor in its own government has ALWAYS abused its power by proganda, torture, and its own stupid laws. This might be the biggest factor as to why Islam is very dangerous right now.
Third, Islam is a YOUNG religion. Look at what was going on in the christian world when christianity was young. The religion was all about converting as many people as possible, whether they wanted to or not. Entire peoples were killed in the name of religion, and Islam is showing a similar side to this.
Like it or not, the world's largest religion will be Islam, and it will rule this century. You can't fight numbers, and the numbers say they are giving birth way faster than anyone else. But this has nothing to do with the religion. Its all about the surrounding details. Islam is just a catalyst to becoming violent, but not more than any other religion, with a few exceptions. But the real question is, what are we doing about it? In Nigeria, we aren't doing a damn thing, because of monetary reasons( as in, we won't get anything out of it). In other parts of the world where we have intervened, we have set up governments that will be no better than their former selves. These people need help, not wars. Maybe if organizations such as the Peace Corps had the same number of those in military services this conversation wouldn't be happening. Unfortunately, that's not the case, but we are taking the wrong steps into fixing the situation. I wouldn't mind if we took corrupt leaders out of power, although I sometimes question our own, but we have never done this correctly in the past. We always set up a minimalist government prescense, with little humanitarian aid, and then leave. We might build an oil pipeline here and there, but that's about it. When we go into these countries, we need to send MASSIVE amounts of aid, vaccinations, food, and volunteers to show that we here in the United States truley care about people in other parts of the world, NO MATTER what religion they practice. There is no doubt in my mind that this would solve any problems that we have with the Muslims, or anyone for that matter.

God help me for saying this. If Mass Carnage really starts...think 9-11 simultaneously happening in 10 different places around the world, we need to seriously nuke them. Men, women and children. All of them. They keep the children locked away from the world, teach them nothing but hatred for anything not Muslim; of course the kids will grow up to be just like daddy. Kill them all.

You make a very good arguement...intelligently. Props to you for that.
However.
1. Islam will not rule this century, not by a longshot. Rational thinking will. "Islam" and "rational" should never be used in the same book, let alone the same sentence.
2. America has been very soft so far; get ready to see hell on earth buddy. There are 10,000 troops that YOU know of in the "Gulf Region" right now. Do you have any idea what kind of firepower is on those Destroyers and Carriers sitting in the Arabian Gulf? Can you say "sandbox with one blast?"
3. Rational thinking says that you can't let savages rule the earth...this aint' the age of Atilla the Hun. They will stop or they will die.

What has happened in the past 30 years is that America AND IT"S ALLIES (we're not completely to blame here) have ignored the violent, anti-American Muslims (that would be 99% of all Muslims out there)...and look what happened! Now they are a force to reckon with. They are the North Vietnamese of the 21st century. They fight dirty, with unorthodox (to Westerners) tactics.
