I am opposed to burning the American flag though I also respect that in the US it is a right to burn one's own flag. The British flag? Go for it.

I don't mind US flag being burned,British flag of my own country no way.

For the second time now...

http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=30442562&postcount=55

Link me to a post showing my labeling all Muslims as violent Jihadists

I didnt say that. I said

Yeah, you're willing to lump one religion into a group and define them by their lunatic fringe but not another.
Which a lot of people do now.

Would you refer to abortion clinic bombers as 'Christian terrorists'?

Terrorists are terrorists, they are not representative of their religion. I've got a bit sensitive to the drawing of sides recently.

The only way we are going to beat terrorism is to marginalise it, not to link it heavily with one religion, thats what groups like al qaeda (which are more political than religious) are trying to do.

So in short, I see a big difference in the way you refer to Muslims than others. I may be reading too much into your posts.

What is your view on honor killings? Do you support Hamas?
If someone Irish posted on the forum would your first post to them be

What is your view on contraception? do you support the IRA?

Like I said its how you come across, obviously its great if you do see the vast majority of Muslims as normal citizens with the same rights as everyone else.

Two Afghans killed as Koran protests simmer

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100912/ts_nm/us_usa_muslims

KABUL (Reuters) – Two people were killed on Sunday in a third straight day of violent Afghan protests sparked by a U.S. pastor's threat to burn copies of the Koran.

This is over the THREAT to burn copies. I'm starting to think the pastor was more cunning than he looked. He didn't even do anything and he's succeeded in making Islam look terrible. Good Muslims everywhere are just doing what the Quran tells them to do.

Qur'an (33:57) - "Lo! those who malign Allah and His messenger, Allah hath cursed them in this world and the Hereafter, and hath prepared for them the doom of the disdained"

Qur'an (33:61) - [continues from above] "Accursed, they will be seized wherever found and slain with a (fierce) slaughter."

My two main thoughts here:

1. Both the (planned) Koran burning and the (actual) flag burning were intended not to make a statement but to inflame extremists. I agree 100% with the posters in this thread that are equating them.

2. I have no issue with Koran burning or flag burning as a statement. But I disagree with deliberately inflaming people for no purpose.

Do you think it's right for people to get inflamed by a koran burning that doesn't actually take place?

I don't think it's right for people to get inflamed over a Koran burning that does take place. That goes for flag burning too. How selfish and arrogant to think that they have the right to speak for all Muslims/Americans/Brits.

Edit: I guess I'm saying that I think both groups are in the wrong; the flag/koran burners (or would-be burners) and the insincere indignant fucks that are looking for an excuse to get riled up.

It's a classic double standard -- you'll find many parrotting the right of those people to burn the American flag, but if you mention burning the Quran, the hand wringing, lip biting, and misty eyes suddenly appear with cries of "You'll OFFEND the Muslims!"

As for these animals, they're not smart enough to see their own double standard.

For what it's worth, I support the right to burn the flag and the Quran, though I believe that both are in incredibly bad taste.

QFT. It doesn't get much simpler than this. The liberal left is pissing their pants over this one, as they should be, because they've been caught with their pants down. Good to see the truth finally coming to the top. We'll be done with them before you know it.

Burning the Koran is extremely disrespectful and in bad taste. How dare anyone try and equate flag burning, which is a true act of patriotism?

I believe that the American flag stands for a country that has written into its Constitution the notion that people have rights that adhere to the fact of their existence and that the Koran is a similar expression of that same fact. This truth can't be destroyed by fire. This truth doesn't depend on the existence of anything but existence itself. Therefore, I don't care if a flag or a book is burned and because I am indifferent to the fate of either, I also have no interest in burning or preventing the burning of either.

Wow, the best post I have ever seen from you.

Obviously this is that Florida pastor's fault. Muslims have a right to flip out when someone even discusses disrespecting their superstitions.

Did you watch the video . Quran wasn't the reason for the flag rape. Its because WE are killing and occuping Muslim land . So as to steal their resources . They know whats going on in so far as what our government wants . RESOURCES!

I don't care what they burn. They aren't Americans. I only care about what Americans burn when it affects foreign policy.

Really? We're stealing their resources? Because I just seem to recall protecting their civilians, taking supplies to their schools, handing out food, water & toys on the streets and trying to determine how to best spend money on projects in order to stimulate their local economies. I can't believe I wasted SO much time trying to help Afghans when I should have been stealing their resources! I could have been stuffing my cargo pockets full of that newly discovered lithium! Oh what a fool am I!

The lines in between there give some context that is omitted by leaving them out...

I thought you were secretary for an Afghanistan General? Wasn't your MOS something to do with artillery ?
Do you call what your doing now a promotion or a demotion?
Due to your feelings towards the people there, I'm thinking you probably consider it a demotion.

I think if a foreign national burns the flag of their host country, they should be kicked the fuck out. You can participate in the democracy if you want, through voting and peaceful protesting, but that kinda stuff shouldnt be accepted.

You obviously read too literally into someone's derisive comments that I was cleaning an Afghan General's toilet. American soldiers don't work for Afghans.

I worked in a headquarters that primarily developed training programs & doctrine for the Afghan military. We also mentored the Afghan generals so that in the future they would be able to do our job themselves (not looking hopeful.) And supported all of the various schools across the country.

Handing out toys, water, food and helping with community projects was an "extra curricular" activity that some of us chose to participate in.
