The burning of the British flag is a bit different. They're burning their own symbol.

How about the American flag and American Constitution? Thats our symbol, just as much as the Koran is theirs. See where I am going with this? Why is it so hard for you lefties to call a spade a spade? Theres no shame in condemning this, really there isn't.

I think that it's similar. I've actually brought this up on the forum years ago during the Mohammed cartoon controversy.

The burning or disrespecting of a sacred symbol or object of another people. It seems like some may try to say that the flag is a symbol of government, but one could say the same for the Quran since there are Islamic governments.

...and I don't condone that just as much as I dont condone Islamic terrorism. See where I am going with this?

Yeah, you're willing to lump one religion into a group and define them by their lunatic fringe but not another.

Lets clear some things up, because you are insinuating quite a bit.

Islam is not bad.

Christianity is not bad.

There are retards in both.

The dude that wants to burn the Koran is a retard

These guys burning our flag are retards

Both groups are retards.

Your turn

Your turn

My turn what?

I agree with you completely there.

You just seem quick to define one group of terrorists by their religion and not another.

Obviously this is that Florida pastor's fault. Muslims have a right to flip out when someone even discusses disrespecting their superstitions.

So burning a symbol Muslims hold sacred in order to piss them off is "disrespecting their superstitions", but burning a symbol Americans hold sacred to piss them off is "flipping out"? Sounds like quite the double standard to me...

Still, I think both are stupid (but allowed) forms of protest that do more to harm your argument than anything. Going out of your way to piss off a group is probably the best way to make sure that group never listens to your actual argument. This goes for burning Korans and calling all Muslims terrorists as a way to appeal to moderate Muslims, and it goes for burning American flags as a way to get Americans to listen to your point of view.

Basically, a lot of people everywhere are really mindblowingly stupid.

Not really, you just have to look at what they are doing, why they are doing it and what outcome they are aiming for.

There are people who really want a global conflict, a mass grass roots uprising and they will do pretty much anything to make people pick sides.

Personally I wouldn't waste time burning a Quran, but it's not as simple as you say. Muslims have actually killed people for insulting their religion. The Quran burning says we don't care about your threats and we reject your religion for being so barbaric as to kill people who make fun of you. This is as opposed to people freaking out, yes freaking out, because someone threatened to do something to an inanimate object even though they actually didn't. You don't see the difference?

And again I question your double-standards. For someone so quick to vent against Christians, I doubt you really care about pleasing their moderates or convincing them of anything. Here's what I think. They all believe in fairy tales and aren't interested in any discussion. And I reject your use of the term "moderates" as vague. Is someone a moderate just because they themselves haven't committed a terrorist act? Can they still be a moderate if they think it was acceptable to destroy Bhuddist statues? Or to stone women? Or to wear burqas?

We probably should have dropped leaflets explaining the right to burn the flag is an American right, right before we fire bombed them.

Except this thread is about Muslims burning flags in protest of American behavior, which seems to me to be an EXACT parallel to burning Korans in protest of Muslim behavior.

My point about moderates was simply to point out how moronic this general form of protest is. Doing something calculated to be offensive is not and has never been an effective way to convince anyone of anything. Who cares what your definition of "moderate" might be...burning the Koran isn't going to convince ANY Muslims that you have a valid point to make, any more than burning an American flag is going to convince Americans that you're not just an annoying jackass.

Don't get me wrong, people definitely should have the right to protest this way...but it's really stupid, and I'd be much happier if people DIDN'T think this was a good way to make their point.

Its just the way your posts come out, how do you think you appear on the forums?

Has anyone else noticed how WelshBloke weasels out of things by bleating out irrelevant questions?

You misrepresented somebody's position. You were called out on it and asked for evidence. Do you have any? Or is it that you are bad at reading or are simply dishonest?

I have often wondered how many people here worship the American flag the same way as some worship their religion.
It's sad some folk have to do this to make up for their own inadequacies.

Obviously both sides are insulting each other. That's true. But one side is insulting as a response to murders and acts of terrorism. As far as I can tell, the other side is insulting as a response to an insult. Aren't murders and acts of terrorism more of a cause to insult than another mere insult? American flags are burned all the time in the middle-east and Americans don't take to the streets.

If you don't care about what it means to be a moderate Muslim then you're statements about making friends with moderate Muslims is meaningless.

Dude, I've already said I agree with him about the substance of his posts, I was just commenting on how he comes across.

And you were asked for specific evidence and you provided none. How do you think you come across?

Burning British flags too eh? But what about all those multicultural programs the Brits have? What about all the great education and learning and tolerance the Muslims are supposed to have for each other and for the rest of humanity?

It's easy to understand why they're angry at the evil United States, but Britain? All those social programs? All that understanding? whyyyyyyyyy?????????
