I'm in the "his kids didn't say anything of the sort" group. Unless they have been heavily indoctrinated, which is also disturbing.

The guy is ambulance chaser (Lawyer) who is active in the community.
Perfect recipe for an outrage committee who could file suit.

Maybe he's dreaming of making it a supreme court case.

After doing some more reading on it, looks like School should be in the clear

What about distribution of fliers from religious groups about events or programs for youth?
Although outside groups generally have no right to distribute religious materials on campus, flyers from religious groups may be another matter. If a school allows outside groups such as the Girl Scouts to send flyers home with students about programs for youth, some courts have ruled that schools may not deny that privilege to a religious group. *

Started to read up on more cases but thought why bother.

Yeah. The posters responding from the feels didn't know what they were talking about (as usual).

Precedent is that as long as schools offer equal access and standards to distribute flyers they are in the clear. Furthermore, the only group to have standing for a suit would be a group denied access.

The only thing the school could do to satisfy his complaint would be to end all extracurriculars, all after-hours rental of the buildings, and all third party distribution of materials.

Fun fact: most school libraries use donated books. Guess what you couldn't have under those circumstances?

A person spends so much time hearing news about lawsuits against districts and then seeing all these heavy handed policies as a result.

Then you hear some story in the news about a stupid flier and the first reaction is "That can't be right...they are going to get sued"

I grew up before everyone had a lawyer on retainer so we didn't face stuff like this in school. At least we never noticed.
We were too busy looking at boobs trying to hide our boners

I really see this as being a non - issue.......Easter Egg hunts and Apple pie and the USA go hand in hand!! I don`t see how you can construe an Easter Egg Hunt to have anything to do with religion.....

What is Easter? Not a religious holiday?

http://news.yahoo.com/now-muslim-parents-complaining-flyers-easter-egg-hunts-125007042.html

In Dearborn, Mich., home to over 40,000 Americans of Arab descent, some Muslim parents have complained about flyers handed out at public schools advertising an Easter egg hunt at a local Presbyterian church.

So an Easter related event at a Presbyterian church doesn't qualify as religious event?

I think the "offended" family should leave it alone. But, if they decide to hand out pamphlets inviting people to their holidays there should be no outrage.

Read the article. The egg hunt isn't on Easter, not even the same week.

Again, it's not on the Easter 'holiday'.

--------------------

Interesting.

Some object because they believe an easter egg hunt is religious.

Some object because the egg hunt is held at a church.

Some think one or the other of the above is OK, unless you combine them and have the egg hunt at a church.

-------------------

Have looked around a bit and can't where anybody complained about a mosque holding an event.

But also couldn't find any examples of a mosque holding any events, not even voting. Looks like 'infidels' generally aren't allowed in mosques.

You forgot that some object because it's being handed out at school.

You're approaching this from the wrong perspective. You're denying the church equal access because of its religion.

The only way this is stopped is if the school no longed accepts any third party publications. No more library. No more PTO. No more after school sports for the young kids.

The level of stupid here is simply staggering.

So why does the Easter Bunny hide his eggs?

He doesn't want anyone to know he's been screwing the chicken!

Easter egg hunt is the work of the devil. Sugar causes diabetes, so it is pure evil. We cant purchase a 32 ounce soda but chocolate and sugar is perfectly OK. Better call the food police!

I wonder what his fears are exactly. Having grown up in a Midwestern Lutheran church that encouraged kids to experience different cultural events and attend services of different faiths, I have the feeling this is less about separation of church and state and, more about isolationism.

Just wow.....you need to crawl back under your rock or read up on what constitutes Easter as far as religion is concerned!!

An Easter egg Hunt has nothing to do with religion!!

Show me in the Bible where they had an Easter Egg hunt?

An Easter Egg Hunt is a secular activity!!

I guess we can add them to the no fun in school club.

You know that club started by the fundies who killed Halloween.

Show me in the Bible where they had Presbyterians. Or a Christmas Tree. Or Santa Claus. Or a virgin birth....oh wait...were supposed to believe that one because it's in there.

It's an Easter egg hunt. It's affiliated with Christianity by default. You can't wiggle out of it. Don't like it? Too bad. Don't hand your paraphernalia out at a public school.

The event is even held at a church, guess that doesn't count either because blah blah blah.

How's this. Call it a Holiday egg hunt, don't hold it at a church, and I'll STILL have a problem with religious solicitation being performed at a public school.

You equate religious advertising to the school library, PTO, and sports? Yea, I see the stupid you're talking about.

If my child came home with anything like this I'd be upset also. Luckily, our school administrators seem to have a clue. For the record, my kids celebrate the holiday known as Easter. My wife even brings them to church. I fully support religious freedom, but I do not support solicitation inside our public schools.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and just guess you're a Christian. If this is the case, then your perspective is skewed based on your beliefs and more than likely your traditions.

Example
http://www.kcra.com/Sacramento-Mosque-Hosts-Easter-Service/12644894

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —Hundreds of families packed the SALAM Community Center Mosque in Sacramento on Easter Sunday.

Reverend Michael Moran of Spiritual Life Center called it history in the making.

His congregation was invited to use the mosque for Easter services after it lost its lease one week before the most important day of the year for Christians.

Members of both religions said it was a great way to show peace and love between neighbors.

Not everyone agreed with Easter at the Mosque.

Michael Tate, a member of New Season Christian Workshop Center in Elk Grove, showed up to the service and told KCRA 3 that the Quran is against Christianity and he believed the event was deceiving the public.

Dr. Metwalli Amer, the founder of SALAM, said people will have there differences of opinion, but for the most part the Sacramento community showed overwhelming support for bringing together the two faiths on Easter and opening the Mosque to Christians.

Services were held at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

An Easter Egg hunt is planned after the last service at the mosque.

For the record, no "infidels" were harmed during the event either.

Unfortunately for you, the law isn't what you want it to be.

You have to be a special kind of stupid to equate advertising an event with indoctrination.

The Muslim parents assert that the flyers – emblazoned with the word “Eggstravaganza!” – violate the separation of church and state widely ascribed to the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause

Well, except for the minor detail that there's nothing religious about an Easter egg hunt. Just as there's nothing religious about Santa Claus giving presents at Christmas time.

Someone needs to hand them a Butthurt Report, and walk away, shaking their head.
