Nope. It's not your cup of tea, it's cool.

man I'm drunker than anything I'm going to bed. If you can't find any good music in that list then you're fvcked.

Slightly edited, but all those recommendations I like - but I have yet to listen to Sigur Ros but freaking everyone thinks they're the new "it" band.

yoda291, I tried to read your last post, but I couldn't finish

sry, cliffs notes:

I called both Nirvana and Britney Spears huge marketing giants and JoeKing got offended. or he got offended at something else, I'm not quite sure anymore.

not offended, just frustrated. I'm the kind of person that can't stand a whiney kid that keeps asking why? Why? Why?

Why don't you just find out for yourself and stfu?

Well then now I'm confused. In the opening post, I am asking that you provide a reasoning behind your suggestion, even using the word "why". If this is something that irritates you personally...shouldn't you have just moved onto another thread and avoided the irritation?

Have you actually listened to any of the music I listed? Not general songs by the band, but the specific songs or albums I mentioned? $10 says you WILL feel like an asshat. I'll have you know many "audiophiles" test their perverse systems out with Radiohead and the Pumpkins

Being neither here nor there...I'll be the first one to say I have not heard the body of radiohead's works nor do I even have a minimal knowledge about the canon of music between the smashing pumpkins. If only there were a thread where someone could tell me why their music is so great ... oh wait. Admittedly, at some point in the future, I may or may not pick up one of their albums. More likely than not, I'll end up borrowing from a friend. If the music impresses me, then it impresses me. If it doesn't, whatever.

To me, it seems you're getting all worked up over this. Normally, I'd just expect you to make some snarky comment I make snarky reply or vice-versa, and life goes on. Apparently it's vitally important to you that I listen to these bands though. And coming into this thread having problems with people asking why, that's kinda like purposely sticking your hand in a fire and then complaining about the burns, no? Would it make you feel better if I said you were right and I was wrong?

I was wrong, and JoeKing was right. Where I once listened to Britney Spears, I have been shown the light. I now listen solely to the awesomeness that is Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins. Furthermore, Britney Spears and Nirvana have absolutely nothing in common. Going forward, I will refrain from asking "why" of JoeKing.

Now you just need someone to do a QFT (kinda like an ATOT notary service), maybe drop it into a sig and there you go. You win.

You do realize that I have explained why you should listen to them right? I far as I'm concerned I explained why in my second post in this thread.

Sweet I get to quote myself.
You perfer classic rock by the sound of your picks. I'm giving you a sample of the greatest modern rock. Your ears haven't heard until you've listened through Pablo Honey and Siamese Dream.

Muse is often reffered to as a "harder" version of Radiohead. To some extent I agree. But think of their sound more a Radiohead ala Pablo Honey. They're poised to breakout in the US soon.

The Nirvana, well, it usually comes down to either you love em or hate em. But damn man you've gotta admire them. They created a new sound! And while the songs may seem simplistic the depth in the music is there.

But for peak sake man you said you want to hear good new music, at the very least listen to Pablo Honey. And please check out the Pumpkins "Cherub Rock", the first song on Siamese Dreams. The pumpkins sound was far diffrent than most of the recent stuff they released before the break up.
As well as subsequent posts in this thread. Far more explantion than I ever wanted to give. And probably more explantion than anyone else in this thread.

And yes after your virginal ears have heard the true sound and you see the error of you ways I completly expect a victory sig quote in your profile.

Sorry, but the whole emo scene was around well before Weezer. Read up on Dischord Records, specifically a band called Rites Of Spring.

My recommendation:

David Axelrod - Songs Of Innocence. It's been out of print for years stateside, but you can still get a few new and used import copies for as little as $15 on amazon.

Amazon Link

Axelrod produced a great body of amazing jazz records, and also did his own work. I would explain his music as fusions of jazz, rock, and beats. He's also one of the most sampled people in hip-hop, especially the likes of Canibal Ox, Lauryn Hill, and tons of others. Also very sampled in the DJ crowd, with the likes of DJ Shadow and DJ Spooky. Let me know if you can't find the album for a reasonable price as I have hookups.

Dang, you follow your name very well! :p
Anyhow, as far as "mainstream" in concerned, wouldn't you agree that for the common ignorant pedestrian, e.g. me, Weezer is the most prolific in bringing the whole scene to light? I'd agree that I was wrong on saying that Weezer "started" it, that's why I should do my research, but I'd say that they were the most publicly prominent emo band that brought it visible to everyone - or am I missing the mark again?
