I bought my wife a pair of Muse tickets at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville for mothers day, the concert was tonight. I'd never really heard much of their stuff, what I did hear didn't really impress me but she loves them so I figured I'd give it a shot. Man was I impressed. Amazing driving bass and shredding guitar. I'm still not a fan of the vocal style but everything else made up for it in my book. The set was amazing, far more spectacular than The Wall Live which I saw last year. Go see them if you get a chance, fan or not.

Wasn't it Mick Jagger that said not too long ago that Muse was, bar none, the best band in the world to see live?

They are amazing live and I would shell out good mullah to go see them.

We caught them in Atlanta last night. I'm like you, knew of them, but not much about them. That has to be one of the best shows, if not THE best, that I've ever been too. I hates to walk away to get more beer. Thankfully, there was a beer vendor right at the end of our aisle!

What albums of theirs have you listened to? Personally, I prefer their earlier works compared to their current stuff. Albums like Absolution and Origin of Symmetry are fantastic. The way that I rate a CD is how many of the songs do I skip because I simply don't like them.

Oh, and one amusing thing is that for the longest time, I never realized that Absolution was a 15 track album. That may sound odd, but I kept mixing it up with Origin of Symmetry where I don't like Megalomania (track 11) but Futurism (track 12) is okay. So, I kept thinking that I never wanted to listen past track 10. Well, all of a sudden, I discovered that there are some awesome songs past track 10 on Absolution. :p

EDIT:

Another odd thing: the first Muse song that I ever heard was Plug-In Baby on some WoW video, and for the longest time, I thought it was H.I.M. because in my ignorance, Bellamy reminded me a bit of Valo in the song. Now, I think about that, and it doesn't remind me of Ville Valo at all.

I saw them open for U2 a few years back, and they were really really damned good live. It made a good pair, as U2 is kind of meh radio-wise, but also pulls out all the stops to make the live shows fantastic.

If I get the chance to see either of them live again I will definitely do so. I saw Metallica twice, in 92 and 94, and they were epic as well. No idea if they're still that energetic.

Coldplay was a bit of a letdown, maybe they had an off night when I saw them.

Matt Bellamy is insanely talented and carries the band. His stage presence is what puts them over the top IMO. Absolution is one of the finest albums of the last decade and just misses out on being in my top 10 of all time.

I'll be seeing them again in October at the ACL Fest.

I think that has alot to do with their style of music. Their best stuff is pretty much just ballads. For a show to have a good impact the band (any band) needs to have quite a few songs that just rock, and then sprinkle in some softer stuff so they audience can relax some before the next crescendo of more rocking songs.

Radiohead varies their setlists tremendously from night to night, and I've seen shows from them that veer too much towards mellow and it is disappointing. Then I'll turn around and see them a couple days later and they put in more rocking songs (not necessarily older guitar songs but newer faster songs) and the show is amazing.

Arcade Fire has great songs for a nice anthemic feel to their shows with just the right amount of softer stuff so the audience doesn't get exhausted. I don't mean this as a threadcrap in a Muse appreciation thread, but Arcade Fire currently puts on the best live shows.

My wife and I saw Muse live for free a few years ago (won tickets from Q101 when the station still existed) with Silversun Pickups as the opener. We werent expecting much and were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed the concert. Muse is great live and they give you a helluva great set. Not my favorite concert I've been to but it ranks up there.

The song Uprising was one that stood out as a song I heard a year or two since my wife was raving how much she loved the new song. I didn't really like it. It might be the older stuff I liked, awesome bass track and ripping guitar.

I was there last night as well op. Awesome show. Amazing. I've had the good fortune to see some great shows this year and last night was easily the best. I heard they are great live but was not prepared for just how great they are.

Muse is pretty much the only thing I got out of Twilight (we trade, 1 sci-fi show for 1 chick-flick ). Their vocal style takes a bit to get used to, but I've grown to like it. Sort of like a dystopian Freddy Mercury with a little of Breaking Benjamin's guitars mixed in. Like any band, there are a lot of lame songs, but also a fair amount of really good ones:

Panic Station
Hysteria
Resistance
Take a Bow (from Watchmen)
Starlight
Supermassive Black Hole (as made famous by Twilight)
Time is Running Out
Uprising

And some of their more interesting stuff:

Feeling Good (incredible cover)
Madness (think Savage Garden)
Save Me (a little bit different, but reminds me of the music from Trigun)
Unsustainable (great for showing off a system with a subwoofer)
Supremacy (kind of a mix between their different vocal style and their normal stuff)

I am a big Muse fan, love their stuff

Take a Bow was just used in a trailer for The Watchmen, but I don't think it was really made famous by it. Although, it does outline one of the things that I've disliked about Muse as of late, which would be their heavy political bias. Honestly, I don't really want to hear politics in music. It's really easy to notice how Black Holes & Revelations and all of their albums since then have had a rather heavy anti-US politics slant. I just don't like political propaganda in the media that I consume. :\

I still like a lot of their music, and some of them aren't as obvious, or I'm able to ignore it. Assassin (from Black Holes & Revelations) is a good example of that. That song rocks rather hard, so it's pretty enjoyable to listen to, but you can definitely still hear a political message in it.

Also, you left out that Map of the Problematique (another great song from Black Holes & Revelations) was in Children of Men. Also, I'd recommend their song Survival, which was used by England as an official theme for the 2012 Olympics. The song also makes me laugh a bit because it reminds me of Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) and his character in the movie Rat Race (video). "It's a race!"

Now that you mention that I can totally picture that song associated with Rowan in that movie. Too funny.

LOL I think of Mr. Bean every time I hear Survival too! And yup, I left out a few good songs, gotta let him discover a few on his own ;)

Yeah. Sort of the same thing with Green Day. Their new stuff is good, but it's kinda too political for my tastes. But it also generally sounds good, so it works. I guess that's art for you.

I watched this YouTube video of Muse live in concert last year, and now I really feel like going to see them live. That's a pretty big thing for me since I normally don't like seeing bands live as the music differs too much from the studio recordings to which I've grown accustom.
