The root of radical Islam is rooted firmly in illiteracy. I firmly believe that the most radical Islamists have never read the Quran themselves, it has been dictated to them by someone with an agenda.

That's not to say the book doesn't contain questionable tenets, it does. But so does the Bible. The difference is, most of Christian societies are highly literate compared to the Muslim world.

Go ahead and look at literacy rates in predominantly Muslim nations. The data doesn't lie.

Terrorists are radicalized and THEN educated to blend into the society they're sent into.

You seem to have a fundamental lack of understanding of Islam. The Koran wasn't written by men like the bible. The Koran is the actual, literal word of god. You cannot ignore parts of it and consider yourself a good muslim, nor is there much room for interpretation.

So is the Bible, depending on who you talk to. Of course you know this though, you're either trolling or trying really hard to make a point out of principle. Case in point though, this guy that made the news recently because several presidential candidates were at his conference where he said all that. He seems pretty sure that his book is the actual, literal word of god. I am far more concerned about fundamentalist Christians making a mess of my country than I am about fundamentalist Muslims doing that. The main difference between them is how they spell their god's name, and there are about 80 Christians for every single Muslim in the US.

Also, saying that you can't be a good Muslim if you don't subscribe to all the crazy shit is a very clear example of the no true scotsman fallacy. You can't just redefine your terms so that counter-examples don't exist. Well you can, but you can't do it and be right.

It's a broader messaging thing.

Even if instances of violence, murder, rape, and slavery in a book can be intellectualized away for this or that reason, ie muhammad was in this or that circumstance at the time but now we're in this different state, etc, for the average layperson coming into this for the first time the general impression upon first reading will be MURDER MURDER MURDER.

People who don't know anything about Buddhism generally go into it and find peace, maybe at worse they waste years of their lives in a monastary. People who don't know anything about Islam go into it and do stupid shit like join ISIL or plant bombs.

I bet you wouldn't dare say the same thing if I drop you in the middle of Syria right now. And you know exactly why. Which makes your argument bullshit.

This is a completely baseless, wildly leftist politically correct view. The New Testament does not continually advise violence against non-believers. The koran does.

Why so many Muslim refugees fleeing Syria? Bad Muslims, right?

No, they're just happened to be the Muslims that don't have enough guns, and don't believe in the same things that the Muslims with guns that want to kill them believe in.

No, dude is basically saying that Islamic societies are inferior, which a true leftist would probably counter with by citing Islam's golden age and how those evil racist europeans were acting badly by resisting the Ottoman empire's invasions.

You do realize there are a considerable number of engineers, computer scientists, and even some medical doctors in the ranks of ISIS, right? Everyone universally says oh, I thought they were relatively pious, but I had no idea they were extremist...

While there's no doubt a lack of literacy contributes a small amount to the overall problem, you are vastly overstating the impact.

Want to know the difference between you and I? I've experienced it first hand.

Go look at the literacy rates of predominantly Muslim countries and tell me there's not at a minimum a basic correlation.

Also, I don't see how stating that flat out ignorance across a wide swath of people is a leftist ideology, much less a political viewpoint.

They're fucking dumb. Radical assholes tell them to do shit based on a book they can't read. They do it. It's that simple. Worse than that, I've sat and observed illiterates run their fingers over the words believing that if they simply touch the words they CAN'T FUCKING READ that they're taking in the word of their God.

So, who's the dumb ass now? How many trips to Afghanistan have you made? Iraq? I'll wait, I'm a patient guy...

How long until we see an equivocation? Something like, "no one noticed when these hundreds of people were killed in this far-off corner of the world".

So, you know which Muslims are bad and which one's don't have enough guns?

Why are you here? Shouldn't you be outing all of the Muslims in the US on FB, etc and telling people that they need to get Dr. Oz, Shaq, Janet Jackson, Snoop Dogg? They're Muslims with money!!!! They can buy guns and kill all of us!!!!

Every second you spend time here and not going after those Muslims, innocent lives are in jeopardy!!!! Even Janet's brother, Jermaine is a Muslim!!!!!

There's a good answer to that one.

Arm the Kurds. Especially the YPG and YPJ.

They drink, dance, and their women kick ass :)

Yes, I realize that there are literate, professionals in ISIS. However, they are leaders typically. They are manipulating the ignorant and illiterate, which is what I said from the start. They're not typically the ones that are blowing themselves up or running head first into a fire fight.

There's definitely a stratification of the people and the ignorant and illiterate are pawns in the radical Islamic game.

Again, take a look at the worst Muslim countries in terms of radicalization and compare that directly to their literacy rates. The correlation is predictable and clear.

Why in the fuck do you guys think that just because I'm stating that radical Islamists tend to be illiterate that I'm somehow saying that all Muslims are illiterate? WTF?!

You're attributing the problem almost entirely to (lack of) literacy.

Which is a fantasy.

You're probably one of those that will either convert, or keep on carrying your speech, right up to the point when they behead you and you'd probably ask "but why? I'm your friend"... Because you're that clueless. It's who you are and it shows through your posting.

Been to any Muslim countries? Ever?

Edit: you also seem to have a lack of reading comprehension. Re-read what I wrote regarding Muslims with guns, think about it for a second, then get back to me.

Then allies of US such as Turkey and Iraq will not be happy if the Kurds is too strong. It is a big freaking mess in the ME.

Eh? Not really. The lead founder guy of ISIS at one point worked in a video store in Jordan. Zarqawi. The current leader of Al Queda is this pointy-headed intellectual that no one likes which is why Al Queda is in decline. All societies have their elite literate types and then the uneducated masses. You can see the macro effects of religions here...compare India to Pakistan. This attack btw reminds me most of the Mumbai attacks.

Haha!!! So, there are good Muslims but I thought they were all bad? And you're going to do nothing about it but whine here. So, my friends are going to kill me b/c you know they're the bad Muslims and not the good ones? Do you have a special decoder ring that can tell? So, Shaq doesn't want to behead us even though he's one of those Muslims?

Thanks for the entertainment!

I'm not sure how "rooted firmly" is the same thing as "almost entirely" but clearly you know more than I do. Your first hand experiences and knowledge clearly exceed mine. I'll sit idly by and wait for your wisdom and experience to educate us as ISIS and the Taliban continue to use a lack of education to control their respective populations. Nope, nothing to see here...

Clearly lack of opportunity, financial issues, etc., also contribute, but I bet being able to fucking read contributes to getting a fucking job and earning money. Hell, you don't have to read to operate an AK-47 though.

Many Islamic radicals are not economically dispossessed, are often better educated
than their peers, and quite a few went to university
. Even more surprising, many of
them are engineers – a profession that we would not naturally associate with a
religiously inspired movement. The evidence of this puzzling link is not limited to
notorious cases, such as that of Mohammad Atta, the 9/11 mastermind who trained as
an architectural engineer, but is found right at the start of modern Islamic radicalism.
In Egypt, where it all began in the 1970s, three of the significant violent groups were
founded or led by individuals who had a technical education2 – and so did many of
their members. Saadedin Ibrahim, the first sociologist to study the early violent
Islamists, interviewed 34 members of two of these groups, the Military Academy
Group and al-Takfir, who were imprisoned in the late 1970s: 29 of them were either
graduates or university students, and of the 25 of these for whom he reports the
subject, nine were engineers, six doctors, five agronomists, two pharmacists, two were
studying technical military science, and one literature
(Ibrahim 1980, 1982).

It's a damn ideology and not economic oppression indeed. Radical Islam is spreading like a plague to Western Countries. ANY MUSLIM living in a Western Country is a potential threat to that nation. Good Muslims can turn bad eventually.

Do you sleep well at night?

Yup like a baby. I don't lose any sleep over the fact that there are inhuman barbarians like ISIS and their sympathizers out there. It's been like that since the dawn of man, and will continue to be like that. It's human nature.

The solution is still the same. Rough men willing to do rough work will assist ISIS in achieving a body temperature in equilibrium with the ambient.

I hope France's response is persistently ruthless.
