:wine:
Finally got my MSI 4890 OC in and, sure enough, neither Legendary or Rainbow 6 Las Vegas 2 games were included. A full retail copy of BattleForge was in the box. I'll call ZZF tomorrow to see if I can get the missing games.
It was a very easy physical install in swapping out my 8800GT but getting rid of the Nvidia driver did not go so well as I still have some lingering Nvidia dlls.
I used the MSI Catalyst CD to do a first software install and then I did an online update to the latest Catalyst 9.6 version.
After reading quite a bit on setting Catalyst up, I've opted for best quality all around as I think the card can easily handle my monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200. I am going with 16X AF and 8X AA using Edge Detect (effectively 24X as this method uses the card's abundant shaders for this and does so without any softening that I can tell.) The only game that I have where I will likely have to reduce these will be Crysis, which I am going to do a fresh install of within a couple of days. Probably have to run Crysis at 4X AA Edge Detect.
Ran a few tests on my system (Q6600, 3GB DDR2, 750W Cooler Master Real Power Pro PS) starting with ATI's Autotune and then going with a few further tweaks. Right now I am very stable running the core at 960 and the memory at 1050 and will keep it there for about a week to see how I like it. The core will go higher even with stock cooling but the memory will need a better than stock cooling solution to go any higher.
The fan did not exceed 40% in my load testing with temps controlled to a max 70C. It is apparent but not loud on full load, really not noticeable on light loading and game play yet. I finally left the fan on automatic system control.
So far, I am really happy with this card and particularly happy with the price I got it at.
