True, even considering that older drivers stop the flickering, the jumps are still there. Is this an issue to worry about? like damaging the card or something? or can i live with it?

I am with Sapphire 270X Vapor-X. I have same problems. For new bios, everything i had to do is start on BIOSUP.BAT, next restrat, and ready? Is that?

In my ticket at SAPPHIRE responded as follows:
Hello!
Frequency and must ride. It features a new generation of GPU and implement it PowerTune.

in my ticket they just asked "Do you have this issue in games?" (even though I said it was while browsing the internet and even attached example screenshots). Doesn't sound like a solution is coming any closer :(

It's been a couple of days now that i applied the BIOS update and it is certain that the screen fluctuation issue disappeared. For our information i saw only once one of the problems that my previous VGA had (Sapphire 7870GHz). When monitor goes into power save mode and i move the mouse to wake it up the led indicator on the monitor turns from orange to blue, which means that there is signal on the monitor, but the monitor remains black. That happened only once in three days period even though i tried to make the problem recur.
However this 'new-old' issue is something that i can live with since the most disturbing screen fluctuation issue has gone.
I really don't want to change the 270X with a power hungry nVidia...

I removed the beta drivers and installed AMD_Catalyst_13.10_WHQL. The problem disappeared. Flickering stopped.

I'm having the same issue. Random flashes of artifacts on my screen. It actually caused my computer to BSOD.

I have MSI R9 270X. Not sure if I want to install the new BIOS or wait for an official fix....

Hi,
I have a similar problem with my 2 R9 270X cards i bought yesterday.
I also have a dual monitor setup and when i want to play in full screen with crossfire on the screen flickers like mad ( even with only 1 screen connected ).
When i put off the crossfire, it plays like it is.
Even the clockspeeds are odd.

I'm so happy I happened to stumble across this thread. I recently installed a new Sapphire 270x Dual-X and I kept noticing these "flashes" or "jumps" when I would be in a web page. I guess I was tired, but I wasn't 100% certain that the image was really fluctuating. Of course, when I mention this to my wife, she says "Oh yeah, the screen flickers really bad. It's driving me crazy. I can't believe you didn't' notice it, too".

Anyway, I had already updated to the AMD 13.12 WHQL driver, so I assumed that I would have to do a BIOS update from 015.039 to 015.041. But, posts at the tail end of this thread helped my realize that my driver info was stating that I still had the old 13.11 beta driver installed. I tried one more uninstall/reinstall, but no luck. I've finally gotten the 13.12 driver installed and properly recognized by using a driver cleaner AMD Catalyst TwL Cleaner v3.9.2 (something I have not done in ages).

I uninstalled the AMD drivers again, booted to Windows Safe Mode, followed the instructions for running AMD Catalyst TwL Cleaner (it does involve some registry edits), rebooted again and installed the 13.12 drivers. No more report of version 13.11 AND it seems no more graphics fluctuations or those odd spikes reported in GPU-Z.

I'm crossing my fingers that the 13.12 driver fix alone has remedied the problem, and I won't be needing to do a firmware/VBIOS flash. Still, it's a bit annoying that installing an AMD WHQL driver did not just take care of all of this for me.

Well i have an even worse problem with my MSI R9 270x Gaming 2GB!

At the beginning everything was ok, i were using windows 7 64bit, installed 13.12 from AMD site and managed to play CS:GO on a FX-8120 CPU, Asus M5A97 EVO 2.0, 8GB, 700W PSU (a nice decent brand, Tacens, it's spanish and has good quality) although with some strange fps drops from 300 to 200 and then 150... But playable and all ok!

I then wanted to try out BF4, installed it, started the game everything in ULTRA in my super 4:3 1280x1024 screen, game starts, all cool, fast, people drowning, suddenly huge brake and system goes all black. Reboot, and as soon as i entered login screen dozen of artefacts (coloured lines, green, rose, blue), image all crazy and then after login Black and White stripes, like Atari 2600 games. Reboot nothing and it kept doing it.

Decided to enter in Safe Mode, all cool, no artefacts, no problems nothing at all. Tried to go back to normal mode, artefacts and crazy stuff going on.

After this I decided to install windows 8.1 and try out my luck. Well as i guessed Drivers are doing something messy, so fresh clean install, no catalyst and everything runs smooth in the system. 1st thing first, was to do a freedos pen and update Bios as soon as i arrived in this forum. All ok, BIOS updated time to install Catalyst 13.12!

So nice part, when installing drivers in the middle of the setup, screen goes all black, system dies, nothing happens and there it is. I can't do anything out of it. Nothing. Is the Card dead? I think so, switched from PCI Express, did almost everything i could remember of! I also encountered some other people complaining like me:

Any help / idea would rock guys! Thanks!

I regret to say it, but the 13.12 drivers have not totally eliminated screen flicker for me. I've seen it happen four times in the last few days. While it seems to be less often then before, it still happens.

Now to decide if I go with the VBIOS update or wait for AMD to get it's s$#% together with a new driver update.

Oh well.

Hi,

Did anyone manage to get this fixed? I bought an MSI Radeon R9 270x BF4 Edition last week and I have been experiencing shutdowns/restarts instead of flickering. Event 41 (unexpected shutdown) in event viewer. My computer is fine when idle at 300/150 and fine during games at 1080/1400. It is when I watch Twitch/Videos on my 2nd monitor that the clocks flicker from 300/150 to 450/1400.

http://imgur.com/a/5129o#0 1 - Idle, 2 -Twitch, 3- Stress Test

I have checked my vBios and it is already at the latest "fix" version. As a temporary fix at the moment I am using the MSI Gaming App to lock my clocks in gaming mode at 1080/1400.

Is there anyway I can change the clocks of the idle state to be at 450/1400 instead of 300/150?

My Card Model : XFX R9 280x Double Dissipation (1000/1500)

I fought with this for a while and I've noticed a trend with forum postings on the issue, either people aren't really resolving it or they're not coming back to post what they did to resolve it!

I had the 2D flickering / jumping issue where the screen would jump downwards for just a split second while browsing or whatever. It was happening when the card would shift clock frequencies on the GPU & Mem, or at least that's what I identified as happening when the flicker / jump occurred.

I tried many different driver versions, 13.12 seemed like it had the least amount of jumping. At one point I had it set so my GPU was never sleeping, that prevented the jumps as well. Thinking I'd go down the BIOS route only after I had exhausted other possibilities, after all it's a new card and XFX doesn't post any BIOS downloads on their webpage...

So the other day I got sick and tired of it, and it actually was messing with my head (headaches) while I was working on some programming. Lines of text and that jumping every 30-60 seconds will drive you nuts and make your eyes sore, I had to get it fixed.

Over at this webpage you can search for BIOSes for your video card:
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?architecture=&manufacturer=XFX&model=R9+280X
(That webpage is a search for my XFX card and model, you'll need to adjust it for your card)

Looking at the options there it was hard to tell which one to try, people said the Double Dissipation Black Edition was fine to use on the previous non-Black model and would provide a small speed boost. I tried about 4 different BIOSes before I found the one that worked best for me, the one at the top of the list compiled '2014-01-16 03:04:00'. Note that this is a Black edition firmware, but I only loaded it as the others either didn't fix the flicker, or weren't initialized properly within windows. (Low res mode, complaints the video card wasn't working)

I used ATIWinflash to flash the BIOSes and GPU-Z to backup my original BIOS and inspect the card's BIOS versions before & after flashing.

Not sure that this particular BIOS would fix it for people, so I thought I would list my troubleshooting list in hopes it leads someone to a fix.

It's an old thread I know, but this problem literally gave me a headache and I wanted to get my tests and results out there for people to see.

Thank you for this. I suddenly started having flickering out of the blue and it took five minutes from finding your post to having the card flashed with a new bios.
