What if you bought at BestBuy and pricematched to CompUSA? (Not a HUGE savings but every penny counts, right?)

$17.99 - 5.86 PM (110%) = $12.13 (slightly better).. especially for those of us who need a few of these things..

I'm not sure whether they're replacing them or going out of the controller business altogether. I know they've been phasing out a number of their products recently.

At any rate, the one I got today doesn't go evenly to the mid-right, it sort of drifts to the top-right. The Freestyle pad I had did that so much that it was essentially useless.

They're going out of the controller business completly, because it promotes gaming on PC's and might harm their precious X-Box.

Thanks for the article, wetcat. That totally sucks. MS controllers are my favorite. Now I have to get the FF wheel somewhere cheap. I haven't found a wheel I like better.

Best gamepad I've used on the PC, especially since I'm into emulation. I have a USB version, but the D-pad is so stiff that it's impossible to do the classic SF motions.

I was thinking about upgrading my machine sometime but noticed that most of the new motherboards don't have the MIDI/Game connector on the back panel anymore. Most have an internal connection but don't offer any kind of backpanel card that connects to it. Argh!

Hmm. Well, as I mentioned in my prior post in this thread, I returned my two Saitek P150 USB gamepads and swapped them for a MS Sidewinder USB gamepad (6-button "classic" style).

Well, all of the comments that I've read in the past about the slight difference in the D-pad on the USB version are true. I don't constantly hop like on the Saitek when doing SF-style motions, but I can't do the moves easily as well. Also, it seems like I run slower in UT when using it, as compared to the gameport version and the Saitek pads.

Now I'm thinking that I made a mistake. I would rather have had two cheap USB gamepads than one overprice cheap USB gamepad from MS. So maybe the Saitek's really weren't that bad, just a bit overly-sensitive, and I didn't give them enough time to get used to them. They worked fine for other non-SF games, although one annoyance was a lack of start/select (or coin/start) buttons on the front, which is a necessity for MAME, and useful for switching weapons when using the pad one-handed with UT.

Maybe I'll just return the USB Sidewinder as well, and pick up a couple of PSX-USB adaptors from www.jandaman.com. PSX controllers are the best out there right now.
