MS Sidewinder USB Gamepad Classic $14.33 @ Walmart

I know it's a little cheaper online, but after you factor in shipping it's more.
Compusa.com has it for @ $12.50, so if they offer penny shipping again it will be a better deal.

These are getting harder and harder to find. Still one of the best PC gamepads- much better than MS's new PnP one.

Classic w/USB. There is a non-USB one too.

They're replacing them with the sucky PnP gamepad.

Cool. I was just looking to get two cheap GamePads and my new PC's don't have a Gameport, so my original Sidewinder is worthless.

The sidewinder software doesn't work on XP. Used to be quite nice to be able to set up profiles for different games....

They gave up on that software long ago.

It doesn't come with a disc, and makes no mention of the software in the manual.

They are cancelling the Classic:Q

Gonna pick up a few of them.

I haven't seen the PnP ones

Wait I bought that PnP one a while back.

That game pad has been out londger than the Classic USB.

I may stop bt WallyWOrld on Sunday and grab a few with my 10% employee discount.

Glad my wife works a few hours a week😉

I'm not sure whether they're replacing them or going out of the controller business altogether. I know they've been phasing out a number of their products recently.

At any rate, the one I got today doesn't go evenly to the mid-right, it sort of drifts to the top-right. The Freestyle pad I had did that so much that it was essentially useless.

Thanks I have always like the Sidewinder and my last one is finally dead, I will brave the crowds at Walmart to see about a deal.

Is this the one with six buttons for the right thumb or the cheap one with four buttons? I have a gameport six-button model working fine with my new install of XP, but I'd like a backup as it's getting old and it would be nice to play head-to-head if I ever get some company.

Wag, I read a few weeks ago that MS is dropping their entire Sidewinder product line -- no more game peripherals. BTW, I picked up two non-classic MS gamepads (smoky, translucent) for less than $5/each on clearance at my local Target (about 1 month ago).

i would like to point out that CompUSA does in fact have 1cent shipping right now. the code can be found @ B$ (don't know what B$ is? chk my sig).

SideWinder Game Pad USB - $12.66

comes out to be $12.67 + tax shipped.

hope this helps.

The transluscent pads are the PnP ones.

I think the Classic pad is still the best hardware MS ever produced. I had a Freestyle, and while it was a good idea, but it didn't really work.

I bought several of the "classic" (non-USB 6 buttons on the right ) version way back when some online store was clearing them out for $5 each. Best gamepad I've used on the PC, especially since I'm into emulation. I have a USB version, but the D-pad is so stiff that it's impossible to do the classic SF motions.

I was thinking about upgrading my machine sometime but noticed that most of the new motherboards don't have the MIDI/Game connector on the back panel anymore. Most have an internal connection but don't offer any kind of backpanel card that connects to it. Argh!

I have an old classic MS Sidewinder with the gameport connector and it works fine on XP, though I could not load the profiles up. XP recognized it fine and it works great with all the games that I use it for, Madden 2003, NBA 2003 etc.

But you have to have the old gameport on your pc, mine had it on the Soundblaster Live card.

Anyone know if you can connect these USB controllers together. like the old nonusb kind you can connect them because they came with a connector on them as well. EG... you have one port... but only needed 1 controller cause the controller had a port of them as well to add too.

Yeah, but in W2K SP2 at least, there are problems trying to use more than one pad chained together. It doesn't matter in what order you chain them, you get spurious presses in some applications on the secondary (and 3rd and 4th?) pad.

Apparently, there are two different digital protocols that the gameport Sidewinder gamepads can use, and when chained multiply, they use a slightly different one than a single pad, and the drivers don't handle that correctly.

I had a similar problem in the DOS version of the Raine emulator, until they added "Sidewinder (alternate)" joystick driver support, which supports the other protocol. It's apparently somewhat undocumented.

I just bought a few Saitek P150 USB gamepads at Wallyworld recently on clearance for $7 each. Honestly, they pretty much suck. I'd rather use a Gravis 4-button gamepad than these. The pad is way too sensitive, and makes it tricky to do SF motions, without hopping accidentally (like a fireball or dragon punch). Could still be good for basic games in emus though. It has two rows of three buttons each on the gamepad, NO start/select buttons, and L and R trigger buttons on the side. But overall, it just feels... cheap. As in, "Made in China" cheap. Very low-end.

I'm going to go back right now and return one or both of them, and see if they have the "classic" USB sidewinder pad. At $14, one of those would be worth same/more than two of these cheapies, and make a nice complement to my gameport sidewinder.
