Interesting. I just spoke to a friend in California who said he hasn't run into any issues. He was asking me about it because he said that he had heard Xbox Live was "down for a day or something"?

You know, when I posted a week ago, I was understanding of the issues. But after I logged in tonight and STILL am having problems even accessing the damn dashboard, and having the notification pop up and tell me I have friends online when it shows that I'm not even logged in, and THEN having the entire system hang because I'm trying to view a picture for the umpteenth time that my brother sent me 2 weeks ago.......yes, this shit is getting ridiculous now.

I'm not going to cancel because of 2-3 weeks of shit, but they better get it fixed, and soon. I'm now to the point where I'm changing my stance and agreeing with those earlier in this thread.....a crappy arcade game will not be enough.

Damn, I was hoping that I'd be able to play tonight after 9:00. I've been watching the clock and waiting...

Yeah, they need to fix on this. I haven't heard them even acknowledge it is still a problem since the Major Nelson podcast claimed that it was 100% fixed and any further problems would just be a fluke coincidence.

And it's not like you can even cancel it and get your money back, or put your account on hold so you're not paying for a service that doesn't work. At this point a free game of Microsoft's choosing is a joke.

Just like gmail is down for some people all over the country at certain times, the system is distributed and can affect different areas geographically. It's not "a server", it's hundreds of servers all over the world and load balanced depending on geography.

Suddenly I feel much more happy to be a PC gamer now that my 360 is at the repair facility. What sucks is that my live subscription just automatically renewed itself yesterday.

I understand, but still found it to be interesting given the supposed wide impact of the issue. Looking at the profiles of people on AT who have been reporting problems, it looks like most of them are towards the East Coast, although I think someone was from Oregon.

I don't know much about the problem other than what I've read here, but I'd be interested to see some data on where people are having problems as well as what percentage of XBL subscribers have been affected. Not that MS would ever tell us. 🙂

It seems to work fine in the late evening, so it would make sense that someone on the west coast might not realize there is an issue. It's fine for us after 9-10, which is 6-7 for them. He probably doesn't play earlier than that.

Mugs, you're on the right track. If I were a gambling man I'd say the load balancers are at mae-east, chicago, and mae-west. then again I'm old school. They may have some in st louis and most likely texas.

I'm still having problems with Xbox Live and it is getting really old really fast. I can't log into XBL from the dashboard so I have no access to the marketplace and I can't see if any friends are online. I have no idea if they can see me either.

I have to startup a game to view the friends list, which is a nuisance. And playing Live COD4 games still has its issues. COD4 online is working much better now but still problematic.

Isnt the fact that MS already knows about this the point of this thread?

thanks for giving us some crap i don't care about

best way would be to just credit gold members with like 800 marketplace points or something (or however much the game is worth) or to just give us all a free month.

but of course they wouldn't do that because that would cost them more money than this would since they know plenty of people aren't going to even bother getting this.

A free game from November? It's a nice gesture, but it would make more sense to offer something that no one could possibly have yet, like a month of Gold or 800 MS points like purbeast suggested. At least it wasn't Contra, Robotron or Joust, though.

#1) At least its not some rehash thats worth 400 pts.
#2) At least I didnt buy it yet.
#3) Hey, I'm happy and still didn't have any horrible issues.

A free game of Undertow isn't that bad. Yes, it could've been better, but it also could've been a lot worse. 🙂

Yah, like Joust ... ugh, they have choose some bad games the past few times. I actually enjoyed the Undertow demo ...

I liked the Undertow demo, but didn't buy it. I'm happy with the choice of game, but they won't be able to please everyone. I haven't experience any problems with Live over the past week. It seems fixed for me.
