Cleartype rocks on LCDs...otherwise it's crap.

For those of you using it and disliking it, you're using it on an LCD right? Not a CRT, correct? It was never made to look good on CRTs, only LCDs.

It looks terrible on the DVI Dell 17" LCDs at school.

i have 2001 fp 20 in lcd using DVI and it looks horrible. The aliasing makes the font look blurry as all hell

Not everyone is as informed as you, obviously. Go crawl back under your rock.

EDIT: I have known about this little "feature" of XP since it's release, and I think it should be a default. It's there to increase text readability on LCD screens, but I find it looks VERY nice on any kind of monitor. I notice a complete difference while reading text in my browser as opposed to when cleartype is off.

I have a NEC 1760NX, and it looks terrible; its almost like it makes the fonts blurry when compared with it off.

I have the same setup and it looks incredible. Perhaps you never customized your settings. Sans cleartype, it looks terrible.

Default Cleartype looked bad on my CRT, but after tweaking some with ClearTweak it looks much better.

Make sure you actually enable ClearType and not the standard aliasing. Standard aliasing looks like crap. It bolds everything on my screen.

i used this for my 1800FP. default Cleartype didn't look that nice. after using the utility, it looked much nicer.

Yep, my Dell 1800FP hates cleartype - I've run the MS online cleartype configurator and I still get the funky edges - I actually like it with just the slight font smoothing that is incorporated in Xp, but anything cleartype looks liek crap.

I use Cleartype on my POS 19" CRT, and it makes the text look MUCH better.
