MPAA reported me to my ISP

I got this email in my inbox the other night. Its got me pretty worried. I since then Shut down my server.
and replied to my ISP telling them that I shut it down.

Any other ideas on what I should do ?

Why worry, they just asked you to stop stealing. Most of the time when you ge caught stealing you end up in trouble with the Authorities.
If you are going to steal you better learn to be a lot more stealth about it. Most successful thieves never get detected. Obviously you are not too successful.

I could be wrong, but I doubt the MPAA actually has your name. They probably gave your IP to the ISP and then your ISP traced it back to you. Your ISP shouldn't provide that kind of info without a court order of some sort, and your ISP isn't going to waste money trying to prosecute you themselves.

Again, I'm not a lawyer so I could be wrong. As for what you should do.. I think shutting down the server is pretty much all you can do. Since you've already done that I can think of nothing else.

MPAA's online bots search for filenames, they do not download content.

Tell your ISP that you contest the findings. If necessary, tell them that you were sharing EMPTY FILES with the names of famous movies to bring to light exactly this sort of legal harrassment.

A program called newfile.exe can make empty files of any size you specify within seconds. Search for it.

So the MPAA has no proof that you were sharing copyrighted material. Only that you were sharing files with the names of famous movies. In order to make sure that the material was copyrighted, they would have to download the movies, and that would be illegal, so they can't do it.

The MPAA, RIAA, and other organizations have a lot of financial resources available at their disposal, but they AREN'T infinite. Therefore, they usually only go after large distribution sources - i.e. someone with 900+ rips who is selling them for profit or serving them off some college/corporate network. The end-users and smaller server owners have little to fear in terms of legal action other than a stern warning, because these media giants won't come knocking on your door. If you keep on distributing regardless, however, legal action might be in store for you...

those are only cd's that are bought at the mall, and arnt on sale. and it didnt always use to be like that either. I remember buying them for about 10 bucks a piece. MP3's helped jack the price of music up to the point where you cant just buy a CD anymore, you have to calculate which one you are going to buy, weeks in advance.

Ya know, it's yer own dumbass fault for buying $18 CDs. I've always been able to find the music I'm looking for $15 dollars or less (unless it's a double disc set). But if you love shopping at the mall to find the latest Backstreet Boys disc then, yes, you'll pay $18 for a single CD.
