Every day i find another reason to like Firefox more.

Today it was the extension for closing a tab via doubleclick, like in myIE2.

The only thing that annoys me is how .pdf files & firefox don't get along so well.
But that's minor.

if your middle mouse wheel button doesn't open links as a background tab, make sure its set to "middle button in mouseware" or "autoscroll" in ms mouse softawre.

session saver is a good extention. if u crash or just cvlose the entire window as u will as a new user, u won't lose all open tabs.

also, u can save all open tabs under one bookmark! and open em all back at once. great for commonly visited sites. tabs are just so much more efficient then going ot the damn task bar, esp when u have like 20+ windows open. heck i probably have 30 tabs open right now ie feels downright primitive.

eh, i'pm sure someone will find the link for it, theres a shockwave+flash installer for firefox that works for .8. dunno if they fixed it in .9 now so the normal installer works.

If you click to d/l the Flash plug-in, it seems to work OK in FF .9. However, once it was installed, I was not able to disable the plug-in. I had to run the Uninstaller from Macromedia.

Can you elaborate on how to set the wheel button to open links in a new tab? I have Intellimouse Explorer. When I click the middle/wheel button on a link, I just get a scrolling tool.

One thing that really annoys me is the inability to scroll through menus. For example, www.pickaprof.com - where it says "Please select your school"
Does anyone know if there is a fix to that?

Avant is a fine browser only problem is that it's built on IE, which of course includes all of IE's "features". (translation; don't forget to dowload your daily xp patch.) That's also the reason is "appears" to be small the download only needs to add avant's customizations to IE.

For those with highspeed connection -- do you also notice if images load like a second or two slower on Firefox than IE?

Also, I wish they had a shortcut similar to IE's CTRL-O so that I can type in a new URL in the same window. (The closest one I've found is CTRL-T to open up a new tab.)

CTRL-L (for Location - meaning URL bar)

PS. I vote for TabScroller, TextLinks, and Nuke Anything, in addition to Session Saver. (I installed 0.2d Pike + rue version, and now my Moz native UI widgets are messed up. If I right-click and select the properties for an image, all of the text strings aren't visible, yet the cursor changes appropriately when I move the mouse over them.) Everything was working fine with just TextLinks and Nuke Anything installed. I installed TabScroller and Session Saver at the same time, I dunno if that did it or not.

Thanks for the link...great site!

And thanks to everyone for all the info. I've always used IE and Netscape for Web surfing, and never realized that there were other good browsers available (that you can customize to such a great extent) like Firefox. Very cool....

Firefox is pretty much mozilla.. except it doesn't include the other applications that mozilla does.. it's just the browser + some enhancments.

Firefox and Mozilla have essentially the same html rendering engine. On the whole though, the Firefox codebase is a subset of Mozilla's. If all you need is basic browsing (like 99% of people) its great. Mozilla is better suited for developers and (certain) power users.

That's not necessarily true. It really depends on what you're doing. I do all of my web development in Firefox, there are really some great extensions that help the development process.

Either way, Mozilla does not have all of Firefox's features, and Firefox does not have all of Mozilla's features.

I suppose that this thread now belongs in Off-Topic, but just wanted to mention...

I've decided to either go back to IE or try Opera. I've been dealing with too many little quirks with Firefox, such as:

1) One or two images sometimes won't show up on the first hit, which forces me to Refresh (this isn't so much a problem in IE).

2) A simple HTML page failed to load at all (I tried the same page in IE, and it was fine).

Also, an image kept rendering smaller than it should've been (although I figured out how to fix it by going under Options). But by that time, I was a little tired of dealing with the adjustment.

Will Mozilla maybe be better? Or what do you guys think of Opera?

If I display a .pdf in a new tab it crashes when I try to close the tab.

Strange. I've only ever had that problem in IE, usually never in Moz. Could it have been due to server overloading? Do you have your memory cache set to zero? Moz won't run properly if that's true, it needs at least a minimal memory-cache setting (a few MB at least) to load pages properly.

Did you try setting your User-Agent string in Moz to report itself as IE? It could have been a maliciously-coded page (IE-only) on the server end. I've seen that happen more than once, unfortunately.

That image auto-scaling feature can be an annoying quirk. IE6 has an option for that too.

Are you using 0.9? Many people reported some bugginess. I was using a 0.8+ nightly, just installed 0.9.1 and am loving it. It definately feels "snappier" than the last version. :)
