Got mine. 0.8 was acting up on my machine and forced me to switch back to IE. 0.9 seems fine. Glad to be using Firefox again.

just wondering (*NOT* trying to flame or anything).....I tried the older version (0.8), and found it lacking..in comparison to MyIE.

Is this one significantly better?

I love tabbed browsing and all the features that MyIE offers.....

I realize that MyIE is still a shell for MS's IE..but even so...it seems much more feature rich, versatile, and..well slick when it comes to a lot of things I use...

Thoughts?

I prefer MyIE2.
When I do try and use Firefox, I keep trying to do things that I can easily do in MyIE2..such as double clicking on tabs to close them. Plus Firefox ALWAYS asks me for my proxy settings. I cannot get the username and password to persist between starting and stopping the application.

IMPORTANT

If you are using firefox 0.8 for windows please Backup your profile first. THen using windows add/remove programs utility in the control panel remove 0.8.

Then install 0.9 and your preferences/bookmarks/passwords/etc will be carried over correctly

LINK to the Firefox FAQ upgrade topic.

So I love firefox, but after upgrading from 0.8 to 0.9, I can no longer get to msnbc.com. Frickin' weird; everything else works fine, and I can access msnbc with IE and Opera. But with mozilla 0.9, it just, well, doesn't do it. doens't do anything in fact when i type in the URL.

Clicking the middle mouse button on links opens up a new tab with that url, clicking on the tab with middle mouse button closes down the tab.

I love Firefox, but has anyone noticed that these forums look radically different in IE than Firefox? I also to seem to have an alignmet problem with these forums(text goes too far to the right instead of formatting to my open window) that doesn't seem to exist in IE. But these two complaints are nill as opposed to the greatness that is Firefox and tabbed browsing.

Umm... why double click on tabs when you can just middle click once in Firefox to close them? :) Or you can also hit ctrl+w to close the current tab.

And anybody else find the release notes pretty vague? What are these "Better bookmarks" that they speak of?

There is firefox extension (already updated for 0.9) to double click to close tabs.
It is on the new 0.9 extensions page, and is one of the 30 or so listed for 0.9

Sorry, no link, site is swamped for some strange reason :p

That's odd, it works fine for me...

I heard that I should uninstall 0.8 before installing 0.9, but I heard that after I already installed 0.9 over 0.8 and I had no problems. All my passwords, bookmarks, etc carried over perfectly.

I really liked 0.8, 'bout the only thing I found is that it wouldn't cooperate with some pages that were running little .ASP applet type stuff like surveys.

As a techie who has had to deal with the heinous adware/spyware that is hosing stoopid IE users, I will gladly load up 0.9.

Under the Advanced Options, scroll down to Software Updates. Theres a line that says, "Allow websites to install software". The box is checked. Isn't that dangerous? Couldn't a website install a trojan or a virus? I unchecked it.

I'm still living with IE under MyIE2 just because I tend to code all my CSS stuff for IE and never bother with the hacks for other browsers. I've been told Mozilla/FireFox conforms to the web standards moreso than IE... but since IE holds a large stake... I guess people still code for IE regardless.

I think I'll give it a whirl in the near future.

Whenever I run into a commercial web site like that I enjoy calling the vendor up and asking whats wrong with their website. Let them know that I really like/wanted their product, but the website wouldn't let me buy/download information/etc. so even though I prefer their company I had to buy from a competitor.

Or even better one is that I just convinced my boss to consider their product as the new standard for our company, but when the website didn't work he got disgusted and chewed me out for wasting his time and to never mention the company again.

Using .8 myself right now and its working better than any browser I have tried before.

Looks like you have to have this checked in order to install any extensions. I plan to uncheck it after that.

Also, I didn't know to uninstall 0.8 first. Is there anything I need to do other than removing the entry in Add/Remove programs from the registry?

I think you got it backwards. What you code for IE are the hacks. When I code I use the standards approved by the W3C, and what I use to test them is Mozilla/Firefox, since IE's CSS and DHTML support is broken and they have provided their own crap to make up for it.

I don't really think Firefox .9 is ready for primetime yet. The RC for it came out like a week ago, and the final release STILL HAS ISSUES. See the official mozilla community forum if you are having stability problems. I would stick with .8 if you are doing anything where stability is critical. Having said that, I am using .9 now and is has some nice additional features and I prefer the new look. The HTML rendering engine seems to handle some problematic websites better than .8 did. Also, supposedly they have implemented a whitelist for sites hosting xpi installers, which is nice, cuz I had started to see sketchy xpi popups from less-than-trustworthy places.
