Moving Sucks

Can someone pack up all my shit and move it for me?

Also, at the same time, can you clean up my current home and make it look fancy in order to sell?
 
It sucks beyond belief. It took almost 2 months to move from my townhouse to my house.

I miss being young and fitting all of your shit into your car.
 
I will say, thankfully we had the leverage to not need to sell our home first. Were planning to have pictures taken before we move out, but after that we can freely move even without our house sold or anything.

So at least there is that.

The problem is that before we leave this current house there is just... so.... much... shit... to fix, touch-up, complete projects that were half-ass done, dust/clean everything... At the same time I'm trying to pack all the shit into boxes.
 
I bought a truck a few years ago. An old crappy truck. Just for moving stuff. When my friends ask for help moving I hand them the keys and tell them to make sure the tank is full when they bring it back.

That is how I help my friends move. I hate fucking moving.
 
You should keep the house as close to the pictures as possible during showings as well. Once you are under contract then start the boxing process up.

I'm actually renting a minivan for the first weekend after we close next week.... The reason? I'm trying to move as much shit as I can - and leaving nothing but the furniture for the movers. Hoping it goes well =/

Eh, our realtor honestly says that it doesn't really matter that much. The point being to get people's foot in the door with good online pictures.

Honestly, we want out of this house ASAP. So the most we might go without moving furniture is 1 week.... 2 max...
 
Putting crap on the curb with a "free" sign works wonders. Somebody actually took our futon mattress, saved us a trip to the landfill.

Hahaha, I've already been doing that plenty. In my current neighborhood? Sheeeeeeeet, people with trucks that seem to just monitor around looking for shit.

This morning I put out some of those wire things that help plants grow a certain way, they were gone in 6 hours. I had an old grill that was 2-3 years old... Didn't even use it a ton, but the bottom had totally rusted out, the burners rusted and fell apart... It was as good as dead... Gone from my sidewalk in less than a few hours.

When your young its easy. Once you get older it really really sucks. Once you get really old. You just give up and open up your wallet to get everything taken care of. I think Yelp and Angie's List are calling you.

We moved this past winter. Damned near killed me. I was glad I had my 19 year old grandson to help on a couple of days. I did 95% of it myself, (my wife did a shit-ton of packing stuff) Actually moved twice. Our house sold faster than we expected, and that sale closed before we could buy and close on a new house...so I had to move everything into 3 storage units for a few weeks...then load it into 26' U-haul trucks and move it to the new house when it finally closed. Lived in our RV for almost a month waiting for the new house to close...in December...but we got it done. STILL sorting and unpacking though. I was supposed to have a big yard sale this weekend...but I got lazy and didn't do it. 😛 Maybe over the 4th of July...maybe.

Do yard sales even work anymore? Especially with everyone on the interwebs and never talking to people in person?

Most people that have yard sales are cluelessly stupid about how much their shit is actually worth. They think that if they paid 1500 for a piece of furniture 10 years ago then it must be worth at least 800 still. Haha, you're funny - I'll offer you 75.

Yeah, but does it make THAT big of a difference when you really hate your house and can't wait to live in your new one?

I mean just like anything else, regardless of how it looks inside the location and the market see the 2 biggest factors I would say.

Follow that up with the online photos, and how the front yard looks. Only then would how the inside looks be a factor.

If you run the sale right it can help reduce the problem. Some people running these yard sales have no life want top dollar for their junk and in no hurry to get rid of it.

People have difficulty visualizing themselves in spaces that are cluttered and messy. So yes having great online pictures is a great way to get them in there, but you want to hold their attention also while they are there during showings. You say you hate the house, so it has flaws? If so having it messy would just intensify and amplify those flaws. I'm not saying it won't sell but it may not sell as fast and you may not get as much money due to not as many offers.

Bullshit. I've always had a lot of stuff, and I've moved it all by myself with little assistance. It was never easy, but I've luckily never had to move more than 20 miles. For a real treat, try moving a surveying/engineering office sometime. Those I did have assistance with, but I think government issue file cabinets have bits of dark star material for ballast. I have no idea how an empty box can weigh so much D^:

Moved to a new apartment last month.
(Was only about 7 or 8 blocks away,but it was still a extreme pain to get done.)
 
When I got divorced had to move all my crap ... it was incredible how much junk that had accumulated after 14+ years! Live in a good sized 1 br apartment now and have been steadily lightening the load but still have box's of crap I have not looked at in a long time!
