Moving Sucks

When I got divorced had to move all my crap ... it was incredible how much junk that had accumulated after 14+ years! Live in a good sized 1 br apartment now and have been steadily lightening the load but still have box's of crap I have not looked at in a long time!

"The things we own end up owning you"

Truer words were never spoken!

Yeah I honestly don't have that problem. It's only the wife that has kept shit from High school / college days. I'm quick to throw shit away. "If I haven't used it in 5 years and haven't noticed then toss it in the donate pile" is my motto.

I was that way when we were young. My FiL turned me into a serious packrat...

I have a 3 car garage that only has paths between the boxes...some of it is definitely "keeper" stuff we just have to find a place for in the new house. (Much smaller kitchen, less room for all her smaller appliances and baking stuff) some of it is "garage" stuff...hardware, nails, screws, electrical parts, plumbing stuff, etc., but MOST of it is stuff that's been in boxes since before we moved out of CA in 2012...and SHOULD be disposed of in one way or another.
Fortunately...(or not) my F150 is --> <-- much too long to park in the garage...😱

Moving does suck. Moved about 10 months ago to join my fiance in another city. Hopefully won't be moving again anytime soon.

I did it mostly on my own, moving stuff 1 trip at a time by car (probably did that 3 times) + 1 final trip with my fiance and a U-haul van to remove the larger items, like some pieces of furniture we wanted to keep.

Use to be in charge of the family's National Geographic from the 50s till the 90s. Moving books or magazine sucks

It's definitely not a fun this to do, but it does involve (potentially) a sense of adventure and a new beginning.

I'm just a monetary value person. 99.99% of the things we buy will only substantially decrease in value from the moment you buy it - and continue to go down more over time.

Doesn't matter if it's furniture, CDs, magazines, etc...

Most people that do things like have yard sales are simply too dumb to realize that their shit just isn't worth anything.

It's why I don't plan to move any time soon. I moved from my parent's to my house, and I had a long time to do it and there was no hurry but even then that was lot of work. I also had less stuff. Now I can't imagine how much it would be involved to move at this point. I plan to stay here until I can afford to live on a much bigger/nicer property and WANT to move to it. Ex: retirement, or lotto. At that point I'd probably still keep the house, and just rent it out. So the furniture etc would just stay and I'd get new furniture for new house.

I never understood people that move every couple years, just seems like so much work for nothing. I guess if you do that you can set yourself up to make it easier by organizing stuff in movable crates or something.

Yeah, we sold over $8,000 worth of worthless stuff when we moved out of CA. 🙄
