<< VERY acquired. I watched "Blood Simple" last year. It's an old four star movie made by them which I found to be pretty average. I just don't get it.

And why is it that every Coen Bros. movie has to have Francis McDormand in it?
>>

I LOVED that movie! And Frances McDormand is married to one of the Coen brothers (I do not recall whether it is Joel or Ethan), ergo her frequent appearances in their films.

I hate LOTR and Titanic also.

I disliked immensely:
Natural Born Killer - violence for the sake of violence
Fargo -
Pulp Fiction - overrated mess.
Jurassic Park I and II. Everyone can die except children and adorable pets. i did not see III but I am assuming I will hate that one also.

-------
Overrated:
Shrek
Blow
LA Confidental
Gladiator
Traffic ... was ok but still overrated.

Pulp Fiction
The Usual Suspects - don't hate, just don't know what the big deal is
Dumb and Dumber
Shrek
Mrs. Doubtfire
Dr. Dolittle
Men in Black
Independence Day
Armageddon

Can think of dozens more...

Swingers
Clerks (and all its relatives)
Memento
Forest Gump
Castaway
Men In Black
All of Mel Gibson's recent movies 🙁

Yes, but that is what the movie was about. The theme of the movie was the overglorification of violence by the media. It was a great of example of the total depravity of mankind. It (the film) was "aware" or the irony inherent in making a brutally violent movie criticizing the glorification of violence in the media.

It also showed that the media had not foisted the violence on the people, but that the people to some degree desired it. I don't totally agree with the point, but it's half valid. Personally, I think Hollywood creates trends as often as it chases them. MTV is a good case in point.

Natural Born Killers is a very interesting film. Maybe watch it again, but this time focus on the undercurrent provided by the avante garde camera work and the story behind the story vis a vis the media's coverage of the main story.

LOTR - I hate it because it was sooooooo overhyped.

The Fifth Element - This is the only film I have walked out of the cinema on (even though one of my friends was an extra 😀 ). I don't know why I didn't like it though, it was really weird.

american beauty
titanic
crouching tiger hidden dragon

something about mary

The Shining

Seems everyone loved this movie but I think it sucked big time. One of Nicholson's worst acting performances.

Fifth Element (I have to see that again..I was living in the dorms and I might have been impaired)
Independence Day (pure hyped joke of a movie IMO)

and to the dude who said Usual Supects up there....cmon dude...that movie ROCKED! 🙂

What crack are you smoking?! THE MATRIX!! BLACK HAWK DOWN!!!!!!!! :Q :Q :Q

Big Lebowski
Waiting for Guffman
Best in Show
Election

All 4 are horribly unfunny comedies that some people claim are hilarious. I might have laughed once in Election, but the other 3 put me to sleep. I actually turned Waiting for Guffman off before the end it was so lame.

After reading this thread, I'll also have to add Blood Simple, as I thought it was a really stupid movie, yet someone in this thread said they loved it.

When I watched The Rock, I was expecting a movie that was a little less... like the A-Team or MacGuyver. The plot to that movie was straight out of some bad 1/2 hour TV show, with throwaway characters, unrealistic adventure on the job, totally unbelievable skill levels on the part of the main characters, and contrived contrived contrived contrived science and military science.

So I hate that movie. I was expecting something more like Ronin or Patriot Games (i.e. somewhat realistic) and instead I get Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery pretending to be Tango and Cash.
