Movies people dislike but you like:

Event Horizon has a soft spot for me, mainly because Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne brought solid performances to a pretty silly film. Watching the infinitely superior 'Sunshine' with some similar themes is a better experience, but I still had fun with EH.

I can enjoy a lot of weakly-reviewed comedies/action films as well, as long as I'm prepared and willing for a film of that type. On the flip side, if there is a terrible interpretation of a classic novel, I usually find it somewhat unforgivable. On that note, I was torn on 'I am Legend'. It utterly threw the novel away in every conceivable way, changing things from a tense, lonely standoff against a vampiric population (where the vampires had varying levels of evolved conciousness, their own social structure, memories, and the ability to speak/taunt the survivor), and somehow that was morphed into an action film with brainless superman-zombies and terrible CG. It lost the entire point of even the name of the story. As a dumb action film, it was fine. Will Smith certainly gave it his all. But it just felt like a badly executed Michael Bay film rather than the excellence of its source material being given room to breathe.

DareDevil. Yeah I know even Stan Lee rips it, and says DD was never supposed to be a tragic character. But, it does not matter, I still like the movie. And I liked that the character struggles with almost falling into the same dark place the Punisher did.

The fight choreography is better than many other films, comic book sourced or not. For instance, it is much better than the latest Batman movie.

I liked that each character had a theme music of a sort, that suited them. Jennifer Garner was beautiful. I liked the interpretation of Bullseye, thought he was funny as hell, and stole every scene he was in. The peanut scene was gold.

And I certainly liked Spiderman 3 more than the reboot. But still think 1 was easily the best.

And I think Battlefield Earth is watchable as well. I don't think even a huge budget could have made it a good film though. Too much of the book is not going to translate to film. Like the Psychlos culture and their thought processes. even the little things like thinking we enjoy rat, the movie just cannot cover it properly. In the book, the rat thing is used to help you understand the Psychlos hubris, and how deep seeded their superiority complex is. It comes off as inane in the movie, if you have not read the book.

For me, it is almost always the films everyone seems to have a nerdgasm over, that leave me nonplussed.

I am not like 99% of atot that hates everything. I think im able to give everything a chance. Terminator Salvation however had me leaving the theater angry as to why I even paid to see it.

Spiderman 3 (the one with sandman) was far and away the best of the 3. I don't get why it's so widely hated. Transformers: Dark of the Moon was pretty good as well.

Funny you should mention that movie. I watched it in the theater when it first came out and pretty much hated it. I watched it again this past weekend and for whatever reason it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I sort of enjoyed it the second time around.

I am going to list mine as "Jacob's Ladder". I love that movie but everyone else I know hates it.

Ah, Jacob's Ladder is pretty cool really. It definitely influenced a lot of modern horror, most notably Silent Hill. It's not a fun movie by any stretch, but I thought it was fairly well made and acted.

The original cut of Event Horizon had a lot more gore but the studio did not like it. Too bad the footage was not saved. Today it would be no different than all the other horror movies like Hostel and such.

I still say Dude Where's My Car is a funny movie with some originality.

I too liked Mothman but I also get why its not considered good.

The Cable Guy. Its one of my favorite Jim Carrey roles. Yeah the rest of the acting was pretty weak (Broderick had lost his charm definitely).

I'm sure there's a lot more but can't think of any off the top of my head.

Oh, Sky Captain. Yeah, I can see why it flopped, but there was a lot about it I liked.
