Number 1 on the list: Donnie Darko, that movie sucked so hard yet everyone loves it.

All the truly idiotic movies confuse me also, stuff like Shoot 'Em Up and Crank, I don't see how anyone can watch those.

Virtually every British movie ever made.

shens, snatch and LSa2SB were brilliant

hot fuzz and shaun of the dead were fucking retarded though

...*not* a good movie, but it is a *fun* movie. The two can be entirely separate, and if you don't get the difference just...quit life.

Shoot 'Em Up was a ball, with some excellent character acting on Paul Giamatti's part. Cinematic equivalent of a roller coaster.

Anything with Will Ferrell as a main character. Do SNL alums GET any more un-funny?

(Rhetorical question, as I well aware of the un-funny-ness of Molly Shannon, Cheri Oteri, Tina Fey, and pretty much everyone else from that black hole of a comedy era)
And will ferrel was great on snl - really disappointing - don't know if he or somebody else is responsible for the current pre-teen, moronic shit. Makes one appreciate "dumb and dumber".

Yeah I watched about 40 minutes of The Big Lebowski....I was waiting for it to be funny because people told me it was funny.

I haven't bothered finishing it.

I saw the Fifth Element one time and thought it was pretty good a lot of the time. But the next time I dived in I only got maybe 15 minutes into it and stopped it. It's on my shelf, so I'll give it another try one day.

The Big L. Well, I don't dig it the way so many other people do. Look, I grew up in L.A. so I know that they are blowing smoke up your ass with a lot of that stuff. It was never like that, never. Now, they grew up in the area they depicted in Fargo (the Coens), so maybe they got that right, but not L.A.

Um, I've seen it twice and loved it, loved it both times.

Yes, pulp fiction dialogue = brilliant.

IMO, it's easily the best thing that Tarantino's ever done. However, he shouldn't have walked onto the set while the camera was on. His acting was substandard compared to the rest in PF.

Gone with the Wind. I hated that movie; I still can't figure out why everyone loves O'Hara so much, she's the very definition of a psychotic evil bitch.

Edit: forgot Bladerunner, that movie was marginally passable until the last half hour, then it was just 😕. I mean if you want to make a movie laced to the gills with symbolism and weird philosophical thoughts, ok, but why wait until the last half hour to throw it all in there?

I also dislike Gone With the Wind. Bladerunner I originally liked a whole lot but I bought the Director's Cut and it just didn't work for me when I watched it like the movie used to, and the last couple of times I tried to watch it I couldn't get into it.

Rushmore: I hated it and stopped it before I got 45 minutes in. Loathed it.

I still like br even though it's getting dated. I'll be sure not to look at the director's cut.

A movie I initially didn't get/like was "leap of faith" (steve martin, debra winger).

Still don't get the awesomeness of citizen kane. I've been to hearst castle and his life just seems sad. Maybe I've become desensitized to corruption.

Tombstone- mediocre
Titanic- craptastic
Jurassic Park- completely completely retarded
Bladerunner- snorefest
When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, and any other Tom Hanks Meg Ryan thing- mildly amusing but ultimately ridiculous and boring
Forest Gump- so incredibly stupid it was unreal. I can not believe people swallow that garbage and lick their lips with zest

I will think of more later

p.s. whoever writes in The Godfather is possibly an asexual walnut

Seriously, why are people even writing in Will Ferrel movies? Everyone already knows those movies are crap, some people are like pigs and just like to roll around in crap, that's all.

You should still see the Director's Cut, well the Final Cut now that it's been reissued. Without the voice overs of the original, the Director's Cut is a bit harder to follow but already knowing the plot I really like it, it let's you take in the movie.

I guess this depends on the definition of everyone. His movies still make millions so somebody either hasn't heard the news or disagrees. For me, it's about lamenting over someone who was so good turn out so bad.

I just have to wonder if there are some other issues...

Forrest Gump was so stupid. It was like it was trying to be the feel good movie for Teletubbies on crack. The circumstances and everything that happened were so incredibly ridiculous. You ahve to suspend your disbelief for movies, but FG required such suspension... it was almost like you had to be a child or borderline MR to enjoy it..

I never really understood all the praise that Fight Club got. It was ok, but definitely not as great as everyone says it is.

For anyone who put down Lost In Translation, if you ever have a chance to travel or live in Japan, the movie will resonate a great deal more. We could identify with many of the scenes having spent three years there (and actually visited that hotel when we went to Tokyo, because of the movie). I can understand how the movie might be somewhat incomprehensible without that perspective.

I saw it a few years ago, visited Japan for the first time last year, then saw the movie again a couple weeks ago. I definitely appreciated the cinematography more the second time, after taking in some of the sights and sounds in person. The shoegazer soundtrack fits right in with that vibe too.

Although, I can understand why some might not like the movie, because I found it hard to have any sympathy for the main characters. A couple of well-off foreigners stuck in a posh hotel in one of the wealthiest cities in the world, feeling sorry for themselves...boo.

I have to 😕 at most of this thread.

People find different things entertaining. Factor in also that a lot of ATOT are relatively young. If the attention span has not developed, any critically acclaimed drama can be a snorefest.
