I saw 13th Floor, Dark City....Equilibrium was the one I have wondered about too.

I check out a lot of up and coming movies and many never make it out....I thought this one was one that didn't.

I am adding this to my video selection this Friday.

same here...im still struggling to understand how equilibrium was anything like the matrix...was it the black trench coats?

I'm confused too. Where did equilibrium have machine? I'm confused. Maybe he means in terms of combat.

Dark City, Matrix, and 13th floor all shared the common theme of humans being manipulated by machines....

equilibrium? errr...no clue....i thought the movie sucked...
 
Matrix reminded me of "12 Monkeys" in many ways as well.

I remember the day I went to see the Matrix - couldn't decide between that and 13th Floor since they were both showing at the same time in the same theatre.
 
i actually saw Matrix, 13th Floor, Dark City, AND eXistenZ around the time they all came out. I think Dark City has the closest theme to Matrix. 13th Floor is a more mellow take at the subject but also have similar theme. eXistenZ is more like a virtual reality game.
 
Alot was stolen from Dark City and used in the Matrix films visualy and in the all around feeling. There are websites out there that show near exact scenes, cinamatics and the look of Dark City used in the Matrix.
