I think you're right. You know he regrets this one after his Oscar win. What an embarassment.

isn't that like the matrix pre-plot?

Don't think so. About some 'elite' air force pilots that help get this new AI Jet off the ground, and then are supposed to go track it down after it gets a mind of it's own or something like that.

As is the case with a lot of new movies these days: Effects look cool, story/movie otherwise looks lame. (IMO)

KS

i had the impression that the AI goes rogue after being struck by lightning. kind of like the movie short-circuit, but different.

Its true, short circuit was based on a true story.

The worst part is, they're rehashing an old concept and doing it the wrong way. Instead of going with the somewhat plausable "AI so smart it becomes self aware" concept from Terminator they use the "teh lighting bolt mad teh plane go crazy" concept from short circuit. It was only acceptable in short circuit because that was a comedy and catered to children. There's no excuse for it here.

The only thing that could save this movie is a topless scene with Jessica Biel.

I think the makes of this movie had recently realized how crappy the concept is. If you watched the trailers of this movie, they pushed the "OMG, teh plane is aware of itself!" since well, it's the main plot of the movie. Now, if you watch the commercials, they don't even mention it, almost pushing it as this fun flying movie with hot people.

Yes, it does look extremely lame... Seems they know it as there is a ad for the movie on TV every 5 seconds...

As said, it is a rip-off of Macross plus. The necessary changes have been made to make the rip off less overt and to adapt it to a hollywood-style, american market.

Yes, looks extremely lame but I'll probably end up seeing it at a matinee anyway.

That's all Hollywood cares about anyway. If there is no incentive to make good action movies, why bother to hire writers and directors with real talent?

MY friend's biggest complaint is how retarded the premise is. A rogue guy or something (anything else) would probally be better. Why did they not -consider- lightening hitting this -airplane- seeing as it really isn't too uncommon of an event (From what i understand).

I might watch it to see special effects but i think my spite for poorly written dumb movies is too great to let me spend money on it.

A coworker of mine got to see it Thursday night of last week. He said it's something you might go see during the day for the cheap tickets, but don't pay full price for it by any means. He said it was pretty decent.

If the token female doesn't show any T & A, then this isn't even worth #150 on teh blockbuster queue...

edit: Oh yeah, from the preview, the entire premise sucks man-meat through a straw.

Sad part is, with a few small tweaks, this could've been a film adaptation of Dale Brown's Day of the Cheetah, one of my favorite books.

Except macross plus was about the rivalry between competing pilots,
the out of control AI was a subplot to make the big fight seem even more
over the top.

Plus it was good.

Plus it inspired one of the best Anime Music Videos ever made.

MMMMM Macross Plus, i feel like watching that again now but that's the FIRST thing that came to mind when i saw a trailer for this movie except with the plane not having any pilot @ all
