The notable Platoon music has also been used in Homeworld for the PC, and in several documentries. Probably most noteworthy is the 9/11 documentary, they used his piece for more of a dramatic flair.

I love that piece.

If I ever kill myself, I'll probably do it to that music.

OMG You to?

I was thinking the same thing!!!!:p

Another wonderful example, but Barber did not write that piece specifically for that movie or any movie.

Oh, I know. In fact I knew about the piece long before I watched 'Platoon'.

Well since I believe he wrote it before film was shown in theatre that would be correct, the man is long dead.

EDIT

I also have the LOTR soundtracks, Gandalfs fall and the chior starts exactly around 4:40 timestamp on the track titled "The Bridge of Khazad Dum". It is a touching piece I must admit, and I give all the respect I can to Howard Shore for composing such masterful works.

A few exmaples...

Black Hawk Down: Last scene before the credits. Lisa Gerrard starts singing as they close the plane door with the flag-draped caskets in the foreground.

Ruiz-My love, you're strong and you'll do well in life. I love you and my children deeply. Today and tomorrow, let each day grow and grow. Keep smiling and never give up even when things get you down. So in closing my love. Tonight tuck my children in bed warmly. Tell them I love them, and then hug them for me and give them both a kiss goodnight for Daddy.

Empire of the Sun: "P-51, Cadillac of the Sky!" Nuf said.

LOTR:FOTR: Right after Gandalf falls, the action sounds stop, they all run across the bridge, all you can hear are the arrows bouncing off the canyon walls, and then the choir starts!

Field of Dreams: Dad and son play catch, wife comes out of the house, and throws the switch for the field lights. (I start crying here.)

Chariots of Fire: Famous opening credits.

Blade Runner: "I have seen things you people wouldn't believe...attack ships on fire off the shore of orion..."

1492: Conquest of Paradise: Columbus jumps off of the boat and his feet splash in the waters of the New World.

Gettysburg: Charge, Bayonets! Or the scene when General Lou Armistead talks to General Longstreet about the days before the war, siging around the piano with his best friends the night some would go North, some South. Only to come together to kill each other, to kill their brothers. (I start crying here!)

The Princess Bride: "Their kiss is rated one of the five purest, most romantic kisses of all time."

The Natural: "Roy, knock the cover off the ball."

Crash: "It's okay, Daddy. It's a really good cloak!"

The Right Stuff: The scene where Yeager breaks the sound barrier and does a loop in his X-1.

Band of Brothers: After the battle of Bastogne, Easy Company rests in the church, indoors for the first time in a month. They are sung to sleep by a French choir before moving off in trucks the next morning. Watch the truck scene again and listen for the clarinet! (I start crying here!)

Star Wars: ROTJ: The throne room scene where Vader and Luke battle for the last time. "You have a twin sister...Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me, now his failure is complete. If you will not turn to the Dark Side, then perhaps she will!" The battle begins and the bass-choir comes up! OMG!!!!

All of these powerful scenes would be half of what they are if not for the music and the genius of the composers who wrote it.

Hey didn't Lisa Gerrad die? She had one of the most BEAUTIFUL voices of all time. I believe she sang in the Gladiator & Prince of Egypt.

She's alive and well, thank god :p

She co-founded Dead Can Dance, which is one of the most awesome groups ever. In fact she not only sang in the movies you mentioned; she wrote the music.

If you enjoyed the music from Gladiator, I recommend the older Dead Can Dance albums. They are in the same vein as that soundtrack and you'll probably like them, specially 'Within the Realm of a Dying Sun' and 'The Serpent's Egg'.

The moment that music kicks in is one the most powerful on film IMO. As if what he's saying (after seeing 2 hours of pure hell) isn't bad enough, the haunting vocal/music behind it just smacks you right in the face. Its so beautiful and so painful at the same time. Classic.

The Rock- the scene where Cage stabs himself with the needle and gets up to light the green flares right when the jets are getting to do their bombing run.

Nevermind, I confused her with Prine of Egypt's Ofra Haza. Amazing vocal.

Yup Ofra Haza hands down dominated all other artists with her powerful middle eastern scale vocal.

I don't recognize it. From what I saw at soundtrack.net, they didn't come out with an album for that score. Sorry to say.

Just thought of two more:

Apollo 13: The launch. Wife cries.
Dead Poets Society: At the end, the students stand on their desks and say, "Oh captain, my captain!"

I believe the Band of Brothers song you are referring to is "The Breaking Point: Plaisir d'Amour"

There's a lot of really amazing stuff out there. Just writing down the first ones I think of:

Black Hawk Down theme
We Were Soldiers - Sgt. Mackenzie
Schindler's List - Theme (Reprise)
Schindler's List - Yerushalaim Shel Zahav (Jerusalem of Gold) (Israeli National Anthem BTW)
Titanic - Hymn to the Sea

The Band of Brothers Requiem, not as emotional as it is calming, but all the BoB tracks are good.

I am referring to that scene plus the one immediately after as they drive away in the trucks. Listen to the background music there.

"Hymn To The Fallen" on We Were Soliders is amazing too.

The soundtrack to Rudy is also quite good...especially at the end when he makes the sack and is carried off the field with his parents and brother looking on.

And although I can't name a specific scene, Ennio Morricone's score to The Mission is simply breathtaking!
