Movie prices are getting outrageous...

My local theatre just did a massive upgrade. I live in a small town, and this place used to have 2 screens. Now they have something like 6 or 7. They added stadium seating and Dolby Digital audio. (They went from 2 screens to 5 a few years ago. Added a couple of more screens and the stadium seating this year) The place used to be falling apart. The experience is wonderful, and it looks really nice now, but I wonder if they are really justified in jacking the price up by $1.50 a head. It cost my wife and me $9.00 to see T3 last night. I mean, when we went to see Matrix Reloaded a few weeks ago, it was still only $3.00 each. I don't know if any movie is worth $4.50.

Sorry, I had to do it. I know I have one of the best setups in the area, and the prices are rock-bottom. The shows in the next town down the road are between $8-$9 a head. When I was still in college, this place that only had 2 screens only charged $1.
So, how much to you guys spend on movies?

$4 is the cheapest at one of our local theatres...
$5 is the next cheapest
$6.50 is the most expensive...

you realize it is not uncommon to spend upwards of 9 dollars EACH at movie theaters throughout california

It just went up again here (Orange County). I paid $9.50 last night. Freaking ridiculous.

One time admission price of $1600 for big screen TV. Now I pay $.99 for all rentals.

<---- see's *MAYBE* 5 movies a year in the theaters.

My normal tix at some local theaters are $10-12... *sigh*

Thankfully the theater in the Palisades Mall in NY is pretty cheap for matinees still. $5-6

HOLY FARKING MOTHBALLS.

$4.50 APIECE and you're COMPLAINING??! I'd hate to see what kind of stink you raise when the rates at the trailer park go up!!! 😛

The local Crapfest AMC here is $9.50 for an adult ticket and $7.50 for a matinee.

If you want GOOD theaters, the Graumann's Chinese is $10, or $20 for VIP balcony seating.
Nearby, the famed Arclight Cineramadome charges $11 for matinee and $14 for regular admission.

My wife and I've stopped going to movies in the theatre. It's outrageous to pay those prices.

We'll see the occasional IMAX, but otherwise we wait for the movie to come out on Pay per View or we rent it on DVD.

I can't believe you're complaining about $4.50...that's only a little more than you'd pay for a DVD rental here. The cheapest I can get is $6.00 with a student discount. There's a really crappy theater that might be a little cheaper, but I kinda doubt it.

Cheapest around here is about $8.50 per person.

I don't think i've been in a theater for about a year.

Is this some kind of parody thread from 1989? Evening movies haven't cost $4.50 since I was a kid.

In Boston the cheapest is about $4 for a matinee, and $8 for a night feature. More expensive places are about $6 and $10.

you can get into an AMC for $8CDN (about ... $5-6?) with a student discount. AMC is now the cheapest place in CANADA (well toronto) to see a movie, go figure.

Yep. It's cheaper to buy two sometimes three DVD's and watch them on the ole home theatre than it is to take the family out to the movies. Exception: With a 4 year old daughter and a 3 year old son, there was no getting out of a trip to see Finding Nemo. DVD's are a good investment too if you watch movies over and over again. Example: Toy Story 2 would have been a long time gonner at my place on VHS!
