Im guessing they burnt cows because they simply didnt need them. either that or someone hates PETA.

Probably because of all the unrest, anarchy, and lack of military presence in the country side.

But how would the unrest etc equate to burning cows?

I absolutely digged this movie. It's probably one of the best well shotted, well made movies ever. Very intense, well acted, well directed. In my opinion, it's the best of 2006. This HAS to win best cimenetography (sp).

That baby crying naturally invoking a human emotion to cease fire for both parties were one of the most powerful scenes I've seen in a movie.

Just saw it. That movie was loud. My ears hurt, but the camera work is awesome, really draws you in.

that would be a problem with your theater, you should have complained. I saw the movie and the volume was just fine.

SPOILERS

Zerocool, at that point, Theo takes ahold of Kee and tries to get her out of the building. He starts arguing and tries to use the gunfire as leverage to escape. Unfortunately, he is shot by Luke (the African American leader of the group that wanted to take Kee's baby) as he is leaving, but it doesn't seem to affect him. At this point, everyone starts to hear the child's cries and they all come out and try to get a look at the child. As they keep moving forward, you notice that everyone stops, even the British soldiers. They're all shocked and some are even elated to see a child, as it's been nearly 2 decades. They pass through outside, where the British soldiers make a path for them just looking in awe. Eventually as they're almost out of harm's way, someone starts firing at the British. The British fire back, but Theo and Kee make it out just fine. They catch up to the crazy woman in the red coat and get on a boat.... queue up to where you are.

END SPOILERS

Now for my take on the movie. I thought it was alright but nothing horribly special. The wasn't even any Muse in the movie! I was totally let down about that 🙁. Although I found it oddly interesting to see the British acting like Nazis. Especially when it came to how they treated some people and had internment camps. It felt like an odd mix between a WWII movie and Escape from Los Angeles. Except Bliskin > Theo 😛.

EDIT: PS. Zerocool, that's why I don't buy soda or any snacks at a movie theater 😉. In my opinion, if a movie is good, it will keep my attention well enough that I won't even eat or drink. This has happened in the past where I bought a snack or something and never even touched it because I was in enthralled. So, now that's how I judge a movie's "goodness."

thank you very much, it seems like i missed a good part of the movie, an emotional part. i always need something to drink though, im a thirsty kinda person.

on the subject of them being put into camps, this has happened in history multiple times and as we all know history always repeats itself, nazi's to jews, americans to japanese, i am sure in a chaotic future like that, all hell has broken loose and people result to their primal extincts which is very bad sometimes. like in katrina, after what had happened people were looting and killing each other (i am not trying to start a political argument just stating facts). this movie shows the dark side of humanity.

another point of the movie which caught my attention was that everybody that had contact with kee died. they all gave their lives to save humanity. also i was very shocked to see big names like jullian moore and michael cane get killed off so soon but i loved sir michael cane's character.

another thing which i thought about after watching the movie is that the first woman to be pregnant is black and as we know of today, that the oldest fossils were found in Africa. so life is starting again from Africa.

I just got back from seeing it and I give it 10 thumbs up. The movie is definitely recommended from not only me but from critics (93%) and users (90%). A superb movie with amazing action and impressive camera shots. I'm not a film efficianado but I found myself noticing the amazing camera work in the movie. One scene, in particular, involved a very fast paced action sequence that lasted anywhere from 10-15mins that was all 1 continuous camera shot! Highly recommended!

fyi-- that sequence was 10:01 with 1 cut hidden (hitchcock style) in the middle (as he moves from outside to the building). great sequence.

It's overrated. In between all the fancy gimmicks, they forgot to give viewers a complete story.

From what I've seen in the film and read online it was intentional. And the biggest hole in the plot is better left alone...Would it have made it better if they explained why the women have become infertile? It's a movie set in a dystopian future and from the films I've seen it's just as good to leave how they got there unexplained as it is to give a reason. The way the movie is now it leaves a lot open for interpretation and discussion. I personally enjoy it when a film leaves you to make your own conclusions upon it.

saw it. 1/2 half meh....

no test tube babies??

i was referring to the ping-pong ball scene...i know it starts when they see the car on fire roll down the hill. i wonder if it starts earlier. the scene ends with the camera over the two cops bodies. that's the continuous shot i was referring to, originally.

This movie sucked ass. Very slow until the "chase", incomplete story lines, absolutely nothing abou the camera work is "amazing" (1 long shot, or 2 merged shot either way as long as it is done right is equally "fascinating")

Do yourself a favor and avoid this movie. It's a dvd experience at it's best.

You sir are in the minority. I just got back and thought it was refreshing and thought provoking. A-

Yes, it does matter. Why are they infertile? Who is the Human Project? These are things that drive the characters and story, and the audience needs to know what's going on.

imo, it doesn't matter too. I rather the movie doesn't explain why so that it leaves it to our imagination or political preference.

and no, this would be a horrible date movie, unless she's an art major or something.

and no, this is not that violent at all.

and yes, the long shots are effing awesome.

however, I think the movie was quite boring. Thought-provoking indeed, but i think it will make a better book than a movie. I didn't mind the "open-ended-ness"; but i definitely will not call this movie awesome. 7.5/10.

The battlefield scene was by far the most convincing I've ever seen. It gave me chills. I didnt realize that it was one long camera shot but now that I do, I realize thats what made it so damn creepy.

And the part when they were walking down the stairs holding the baby and everyone stopped, including the soldiers was very powerful. Then it just started back up and it said it all.

Great movie.
