Uh oh, someone's getting grumpy now! As has been asked at least twice in this thread by me, and more by other people, what did moveon.org stand to gain by putting this picture there instead of another picture with actual US troops? What was their motivation to lie? I can't think of one. Because there is exactly zero motive, it is far more likely to believe that it was a mistake. That's of course if you are a reasonable person who isn't looking to make stupid threads on ATPN.

As for misrepresentation, how exactly did it misrepresent our troops? The dictionary definition of misrepresentation is "an untrue representation, usually an unfavorable one". What unfavorable thing is being presented here? That our soldiers wear pants? That they eat? Again, what is the motive here? Any person with a brain would immediately see that there isn't one.

So while I know you're mad that you got called out for making an idiotic thread on here, it's not going to change the fact that it's still an idiotic thread. Just admit it. It will feel good... you'll feel free. Liberated. You don't need to cling to this with your kung-fu grip, because it's not worth it.

What was their motivation? Who the hell knows. But why couldnt they post a REAL pic? Hmmm? The better question is WHY. WHY TWICE!

Would a "real" pic have made their point any less valid? What if they had posted the photo-op pic of Bush feeding the troops a fake turkey? Would that have made their point stronger?

The point is that our troops are in a war zone for Thanksgiving while you are posting on a message board about how bad a group of people fighting to get them home is for using a photo of other soldiers in the same exact situation that our troops are in?

I think that you need to take a longer look into the glare off of you monitor so you can see who the real desperate partisan hack really is.

Because some things are probably mistakes, and some things aren't. You're right that the Democrats haven't done much to bring the troops home... so why not beat them up on things that are meaningful instead of focusing on a picture? It's the same thing as people making fun of Nancy Pelosi's dress instead of talking about what she's doing. It clouds legitimate issues with layers of crap, and I hate it.

EDIT: Oh, thanks for being big enough to apologize by the way, a lot of people on here, sometimes myself included, wouldn't do that.

Because some things are probably mistakes, and some things aren't. Still going to have to disagree. There's no motive. If you can find something they would have gained from doing this, let me know and I'll reconsider. Until that time there is simply no reason to believe it was deliberate.

Now I'm not sure why you're so defensive, since I hardly ever use "stupid labels" to describe anyone, and I don't think I've ever called you anything. But since you brought it up, for someone who's "independent", you seem to come to the defense of Republican issues almost exclusively, claiming independence as political cover. I'm not sure why being able to identify the correct kinds of uniforms our troops wear is important to holding a political opinion on Iraq, but if it IS a requirement, I think most Americans on both sides need to sit down and shut up. But honestly, I can't quite get my head around the uniform issue...other than the fact that it's a good "OMG" fake judgement moment and a good way to bash a group you don't like without actually having to make an argument. Unless you can explain to me why being able to correctly identify US troop informs is required to hold an opinion on Iraq. And if so, what other military knowledge is required? Should people be able to identify the differences between a Bradley and a tank? How about identifying which fighter aircraft the Navy operates and which ones the Air Force owns? (OMG, MoveOn.org said F-15's land on aircraft carriers, they are so stupid!?!?!? lolololo!!!!!!111).

Honestly, it's a stupid mistake that they should have caught, but it has fuck-all to do with their point, and you know it.

Photoshopped? OK- they took it from pics on hand, one that fit into the thanksgiving scenario- troops in the chowline, rather than home with their families... More to it than that? only in the minds of the truly paranoid... or somebody ready to whine about anything moveon does...

I'd have preferred the one of Bush serving plastic turkey- it'd really fit a whole lot better into the truth of what he's been serving everybody all along...

I'm inclined to agree that it was probably somebody being stupid, but you said it was a "deliberate deception" and not a mistake, something completely different. If they were INTENTIONALLY using the wrong photo, why would they do that? Lack of intelligence may be the real reason, but it kind of precludes doing it intentionally, don't you think?

Then what are you whining about? Did they break a law or are they gaining something immorally? What is yoiur objection?

Either they did it accidetnally or they did it on purpose. If they did it on purpose what did they gain? The only thing I can see they could gain would be publicity for the fact we have a lot of troops stuck in Iraq, many serving their 3rd or 4th tour of duty. Does that somehow strike a nerve in you? :laugh:
