What does that do exactly? I've tried messing with Drive strength, etc... Running a divider isn't as bad as I thought though, since I get to run tighter timings.Originally posted by: Shimmishim
try messing with the MAL and preamble settings from default 8 and 6 respectively

Yeah well so much for a price drop.... Anywhere else besides Monarch and eWiz that has these things?

I just bumped my Opteron to 2920mhz overnight and am in the process of stressing it. So far so good!
CPU-Z verified!
I'm loving this processor!

I have been on the lookout for one for a couple of weeks now. I don't want to pre-order because I don't want to have to wait if other vendors get them in stock. They are impossible to find right now though. Prices are supposedly dropping on 10/31, so you might want to wait until then before ordering.Originally posted by: nloding
OK, so I'm late in the game getting into this whole Opteron thing, but I am desperately searching out an Opteron 144 s939, preferably the CABNE but I'll take a CABYE too. I'm looking for 2 to 4 of them. I s'pose I'd take a 146, but I could take 1 or 2.
Should I preorder on a site like Monarch, and not know what core I'm getting, or is there a place that currently has some in stock right now that someone knows of? Or will someone sell me theirs for a comparable price to what I'd pay at one of those retail outlets?

Yeah, I think there is a chance that they will reduce the overclockability of these things in some way, by moving production to different fabs or something. There are still some 148's knocking around, but for $300 I'd rather get an X2 3800+.Originally posted by: nloding
Yeah, I can't find anything anywhere, at all. I work for a computer outlet store, and none of our vendors carry anything either. I'm still madly searching though, and actually have calls out to AMD reps worldwide. There's a guy on another forum I've seen selling some of the procs, so I'm gonna see what he's got, but let me know if you find anything man.
And yes, AMD confirms that there will be a price on 10/31 -- my fear is that there will a change in the core as well though.

Though pleased with my X2, when I saw some of the overclocking results on these 939 Opterons I couldn't resist..
Got a 148 from Monarch and went right to 2850 at default 1.4 .. Priming as we speak..
Can you say " FX57 " at 1/3 the price ?
I'll see what happens overnight..
I haven't been this excited since I was running dual 500 Celrys at 850 on a BP6..

AMD wanted to get the Opterons off the ECC memory requirement of the 940 in order to gain more of the low end server market on a 939 platform which doesn't require registered memory.
The 939 Opteron is an E4 core just like the San Diego, but the Opty is supposedly selected from the best silicon (binned) because of the 24/7 server requirement.
The Opty is not hype, there are reports of OC up to 1500 MHz from stock (2.0 GHz to 3.50 GHz), the majority are hitting at least 2.8 GHz.
The CABNE and CABYE steps are the best with CABGE right behind. Even later steps may prove to be dogs and then the hype will be hype, however, the first batches are nothing short of stellar. When you can turn a $150 chip easily into 3.0 GHz monster with a 1MB cache, that is major bang for buck.
