According to the article, it looks like they'll be employing two processors like Samsung to manage battery life and that the phone will "know what you want to do before you do." Interesting.

Riiiiiiiiiight. That's why they went out their way to set a precedent (the S4 Google Edition).
 
someone needs to tell them we want replaceable batteries like samsung.

i wish theyd manufacture it in china so it'll be cheep, we dont need any of this "made in america" crap...

Sadly, this is really true. I can't believe the markup on "made in America" products. I went to the store with my fiance registering for kitchenware. There were so many "made in America" items. I thought that it would be awesome for obvious reasons, but then the price was either double or triple. In this case, I was looking at a muffin/cupcake pan, and it was $15 whereas the "made in Taiwan" was $4.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Anyway, I'm still glad they're bringing it stateside, and from what Woodside said, it seems like they'll be competitively priced. I'm assuming that's because Google will unload money for Moto to be able to afford the difference.

Moto doesn't have a lot of flexibility here.

The out-of-contract price can't be higher than other flagship phones or the press will chide them.

The in-contract prices are locked in by the providers- AT&T won't go above $199 unless the thing has 64GB onboard. Verizon is locked at $299.

Honestly the "made in America" thing only appeals to me if that means sympathetic US employees leak keys to the bootloader.

Heh. Actually, I'm wondering if the post-acquisition era means that everything will either be unlocked or easily unlockable. If not, then what was the point?

Given the fact that this phone was able to make it to all the major carriers(AT&T, Verizon, Sprint), I highly doubt that the phone will either be unlocked or easily unlockable without some sort of exploit.
 
The news these last few days from Moto has me interested...it'll come out right around when I'm eligible for my upgrade and possibly the deciding factor for me will be if it somehow, magically has significantly better battery life than the One or S4. I travel all the time and so that means I'm not on wifi a lot. I'm sure that the hardware will be just about the same, unless they manage to stick Snapdragon 800 in there.

i just hope they dont put a bunch of half-baked, sort-of-working features in it like samsung does. the best thing about motorola phones is that they are reliable

Motorola's OS is near stock nowadays.

They do have a few extra apps. eg. SmartActions, and yes, it's kinda half-baked, but luckily it's just an app. They also have a default clock, weather, battery/notifications widget, and I actually really like it. But otherwise the OS itself is almost stock.

I still think they and Google should get a physical home button though.

It sounds bad on that front. Moto is talking about a phone that "Will know when its in your pocket or in your car."

Its either easier tasker and its awesome, or its half-baked crap.

I was thinking it would have something to do with Google Now, KLP, and Motorola adding their own software under the guidance of Google. I realize they keep saying they're two separate entities, but I'll believe it if the devices they release are horrible. 😛
 
It says it will arrive in late summer, so I'm assuming August/September time frame. Any idea when they're going to actually announce the device though?
