Snapdragon 800 vs Snapdragon 615? Adreno 330 vs Adreno 405?

Is it worth the downgrade in SOC from my Nexus 5 for the upgrades in battery and camera? And the SD card slot?

I think you'll definitely notice a performance decrease dropping from the 800 -->615.

Do you trust Motorola with cameras? That's another question to ask. My experience with all the Moto phones is: no.
Well today they reiterated the camera is much improved. However, if you're used to Nexus cameras, the Moto camera isn't going to be a disappointment and may in some ways be an upgrade. At least you get burst mode compared to the Nexus phones.

ummm dXo mark already reviewed the new moto x camera and it rated higher than the iphone 6 or 6+, getting the third highest score of all time for a mobile phone camera.

Does that require taking RAW files or something? I've heard a lot of universal distaste with Moto cameras for awhile, but I also admit I haven't paid much attention as of late.

A lot of distaste could simply be bad processing of jpegs compared to the processing of other models.

Actually, they rated the new X still camera just below the i6, but the camcorder far above. Still way better than previous Motos.

(Doesn't look like the site tested the G4, though?)

Ugh it's going to be an unbearably long wait for the new Nexus 5.
I know, right? Way too long. I think I'm going to get either the Moto X Play or the Moto X Style as a stop-gap phone until November/December (whenever the Nexus is released). If the Nexus doesn't excite me then I can just keep the Moto phone.

What's with the nexus naming scheme, Nexus 5 was 2 years ago, now it's back?
It's loosely based on screen sizes, so if there are 2 Nexuses one being 5,2" and one 5,7" they will probably call them 5 and 6.

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding why my LG G2 feels faster than my Nexus 5 that's overclocked to 2.8ghz

So, first thing, what in the world does that have to do with the discussion? Are you this starved for attention?

Anyone on these boards know by this point that you like the G2. You don't have to go around shoving it down people's throats by randomly inserting the fact that you own one. Get over yourself.

It's loosely based on screen sizes, so if there are 2 Nexuses one being 5,2" and one 5,7" they will probably call them 5 and 6.

Ever since they started using digits, it's always been about the screen size. ALWAYS.

Yes, even the Nexus 4. Yes, I know how rounding works. Yes, 15.6" laptop screens were always called 15 inch screens for the exact same reasons.

I'm curious about their testing methods also. It's a very synthetic test IMO and its like getting a PC Mark score or whatever. That only gives you one dimension of the imaging capabilities.

For example the S5 might've scored fine in its time but I swear its low light capabilities are absolutely trash and the launch time feels like forever. Those things are definitely not mentioned here. Also, the N5 does pretty well too and did well for its time, but what's not mentioned on DXOMark is the horrendous shutter lag, the slow AF, and how long it takes to take a second photo after you've taken the first (1-2 fps tops) even if you try to click as fast as you can. It was because of this lag Google's 4.4.1 update sped up shutter speed and really the benefits of OIS were moot.

I've decided on the Moto X Play.

Despite the downgrade in SOC compared to my current Nexus 5, the significant upgrades in battery, camera, microSD, quick charging and speaker make it impossible to resist.

Seeing as the Style starts at £359 for the 16GB model, the higher storage options will likely be in the ~£400 range and I'm not convinced on spending that amount of money on a phone I'm not totally confident in (battery life being my biggest concern with the Style).

The moto pure edition has a 3,000 mah battery compared to my S5 2,800 mah battery. Sure the difference isn't huge but I'm looking forward to getting timely updates and running stock android
