Moto Razr, HTC Rezound or wait for Galaxy Nexus?

Wife is in desperate need of a new phone now and we are eligable to upgrade her. Which device would you go with? (also when does the nexus come out?)

There have been many rumors on a Galaxy Nexus release date. The latest rumor, which has been corroborated a lot of places, is December 8th.

Ok thats what I read as well. I cant decide if its worth the wait or go ahead and get her the rezound or razr?

Personally I went with the Rezound, I was coming from an original droid.

Have you played with the Razr and Rezound yet? And I mean a side by side comparison, with live phones?

i cant deal with the plastic build of the galaxy (and my phone is my primary camera, and the nexus cam is original galaxy / nexus s level, so not that great) that and a lot bigger. razr feels kind of weird to hold, so i went with the rezound. then again i've had a ton of htc phones so i might just be used to their feel / build. if you can wait though i'd just try them out. if you can't i'd get the rezound.

I'm also coming from an original Droid. I went to the store the other day and checked out the Razr and the Rezound. I found the Rezound vastly more comfortable. Seemed solidly built as well and had a better screen. The Razr just seemed awkward. Reviews have complained about the Rezound's thickness and weight but coming from the Droid (with an Otterbox case) the Rezound actually felt slimmer.

I'm worried about the reported cheap build on the Nexus. Also not too happy about the lack of an SD card slot.

The only thing holding me back from getting the Rezound is how soon it will get ICS. Seeing as how the Thunderbolt is just now getting Gingerbread I'm a little worried that it'll take forever to get ICS on the Rezound. It hasn't even been properly rooted yet AFAIK so you can't get rid of the bloatware.

One nice thing about the Rezound is that you get the free Beats earbuds, which you can then sell for $100 and pick up an equally good set for $30 😛

I think the rezound is a fine phone; if you are going to buy the phone from verizon; then I would go ahead (you can return it before Jan 15 and get the nexus if you prefer that phone). If you are buying from a third party such as amazon; I would wait the extra week and take a peak at the nexus first.

thats exactly one of the best things about the rezound. i basically bought mine at a $90 discount on ebay to the "going rate" becuase it didnt have headphones.

the headphones were probably decent, but a set of CX200/300s on a newegg deal are probably just as good for $20-40 depending on whatever sale is going on.

i'm a little worried about ICS but honestly though ICS is better its not going to blow my mind. i would assume we'll get it sometime Q1 2012 which I can live with.

What idiot would give you $100 for those?

OP - If you're desperate I wouldn't wait on the GNex, there is no firm date set other than "this year" - you might wait another month.

Personally between the Razr & Rezound I would get the Rezound, I had one for a couple weeks, it was OK. Did you consider getting the spousal unit an iP4s?

When I got my HP Envy, it came with Beats Solo headphones and I sold them on ebay for retail price $200... People are stupid.

The same idiots that would pay $120 retail for them.

$96 with 15 hours left, among others...

I go to Ohio State... Beats™ by Dre™ are very popular here.

i've seen people pay $80 ish for the ones that come with the rezound. they are basically the same i think they actually have a media player control + volume, so they are actually better. but they dont have a box or anything.

but yeah , my brother used to have a guy he could get "returned" units of the $300 studio ones from. and people would pay $250 ish for near mint ones. we listened to them and they are maybe a little better than say some hd 280 pros, but nothing to rave about.

so I'm also desperately waiting for the gnex. My Charge got jacked about 3 weeks ago now; my plan is sitting idle while I am using a prepaid waiting for this stupid phone. Is there any reason i shouldn't go get a RAZR or rezound and return it when the gnex is finally released?

It'll cost you $35 and it has to be returned in like new condition. So there is a risk and a cost, I did it with the rezound and returned it early after I heard a couple of dropped phone stories.

The same as any college campus, Beats by Dre and MacBook Pros are everywhere. I go to UCLA and that's all I see. Ive actually let a few people hear my Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10s and they're blown away at how much better they are than the beats.

LoL. I went to an Apple Store in Taiwan and tested all the Beats audio (its an Apple authorized reseller cuz there's no official Apple store there), and my TF10 Pros put a beat down on all that idiocy.

When I tell people I spent $99 on earbuds they're like OMG BEATS? And I say no, mine are worth $400 easily and sound far better than that trash. They are unimpressed when I show them my TF10 Pros. I've only gotten a few people to appreciate it because 80% of people can't even put them on. The over-the-ear design is too complicated apparently.

The wife and I got the Rezound. Me coming from a Droid X and her from an HTC Incredible.

She's loving it, cause it's more of the same (she loved the Incredible).

Me, I'm still getting used to Sense which is leaps and bounds above Motorola's blur. Overall though, for a nice future proof purchase (future proof for a few months), I'd say the Rezound over the Razr.

And the battery issue. Though the RAZR is built like a dolphin's butt, if the battery shits the bed, you're off to get a new phone than just replacing the battery.

Also, even if waiting for the next ICS loaded phone, the Rezound will still hang with the up and coming Samsung. The only downside is that the Samsung has an AMOLED screen, which really makes color's pop.

Other than that, no other opinions I can offer.

There's more + to the Gnex than just the AMOLED screen -

- NFC
- Google phone
- No Physical buttons below the screen

By the time NFC is even useful the GNex will be long obsolete. The on-screen buttons take away from your screen resolution.

I did end up getting the Rezound last week and am loving it so far. Sense is decent... I put LauncherPro on it and it feels pretty much like my old phone. Reception is WAY better. I had to stand by the window in my apartment with the Droid; I can use the Rezound anywhere.

I love the feel of the phone though... it really just feels good in your hand. Thinness is a nice bullet point but in practice I don't really find it relevant. This thing is still thinner than my Droid.

All it needs is a proper root and it will be fantastic.

I went with the Rezound also, the new Galaxy Nexus is larger all around.. I find the Incredible 2 to be the sweet spot size wise, and the Rezound is slightly larger.

Only thing really missing from the Rezound compared to the Galaxy Nexus is the NFC. Otherwise, pretty much the same spec wise (720p Screen, LTE). The Rezound also has a Micro SD slot which I find more important than NFC..

ICS is a given..

I've mostly decided to go with the galaxy nexus though I'll wait until i see it in person. I was leaning towards the rzound but there are a few negatives. First security on non-google experience phones have been quite poor; second icq on rezound; third the razr was just a tad too wide; the gn is a bit narrower (from specs the only thing I really dislike about hte gn is lack of sd slot). Oh well i might change my mind once I see it in person.
