Web applicances. Those little POS computers made spec. for email?

Daikatana and Black&White for most overrated games. Rambus and Itanium for most overhyped techs (both supported by intel, lol).

those saying Minidisc havnt a clue..heh, its still used widely in Europe and Japan, they now have MP3 versions available to whoever asked, altho its a tricky way to get it to work apparently...it wasnt a flop, its been around quite a long time, its simply becoming outdated now....it is a useful recording device tho, even the portable ones are quite good, i never personally owned one tho, i preferred the cheaper audio tape untill i got my first MP3 player...heh

same goes for laserdisc, that actually had a reasonably long lifespan.....in fact i do believe some titles are still released in the format...

I'd agree on Doom3 being a flop tho, so much hype, nothing other than good graphics delivered tho......thankfully HL2 delivered more along the lines of what we waited for...heh

Y2k not a flop, we prepared and everything went smoothly......

Dolby Digital EX......reasonably hyped, doesnt do much more than DD to my mind....DTS ES 6.1 Discrete however was a definite improvement, shame so few films employ it atm, the DTS ES 6.1 Matrix (a term, not the film..lol) only offers DTS's sound quality improvement, its effects improvement is no greater over standard 5.1 than DD-EX is.....
(and before u ask, i have a good enough system to be able to tell the differences..lol)

and now to bed :)
definitley not an overhyped thing...lol

You mean "IT" as it was hyped prior to release. It's sad that I remember that.

I nominate:
Britney Spears...hell all pop music groups, "singers" and entertainers

Yea but without the Y2K "hype", and the mad rush to either fix it or put in patches around it - it very well could have crashed a lot of important systems.

I second the Rambus.

Exactly. Y2k wasn't a disaster precisely because governments and business spent billions of dollars and countless man-hours preparing for it. They took it seriously and did their jobs well. So Jan 1 comes and goes without anything bad happening - and this huge bloc of idiots suddenly think we wasted all that time and energy over nothing - because nothing bad happened. Stupid.

Lets face it though, if the economy wasn't booming then we probably have all been like "lets wait and see" and let it blow up in our faces.
You may be right. I just think it's ironic that so many people think Y2k was an overhyped flop, when it was actually a huge success - and the people and politicians responsible for preparing for it deserve tremendous respect for a job well done.
