Exactly. Y2k wasn't a disaster precisely because governments and business spent billions of dollars and countless man-hours preparing for it. They took it seriously and did their jobs well. So Jan 1 comes and goes without anything bad happening - and this huge bloc of idiots suddenly think we wasted all that time and energy over nothing - because nothing bad happened. Stupid.

Lets face it though, if the economy wasn't booming then we probably have all been like "lets wait and see" and let it blow up in our faces.

It was not crap just really too expensive.

Anyone remeber the DIVx Players. Buy a movie and you can watch it for 3 days? :D

Whatever that date was, like May 20th 2004 or something where a guy was going to reveal the "huge secret" he found and wrote about. Turned out to be a book promo. Lame.

A lot of people are mentioning passing fads, not things that are truly hyped. I'd say Segway is a good candidate for an over-hyped product that fell flat.
