Air conditioning.

If we had no a/c, we wouldn't be populating Florida, Louisiana and other very hot places.

I read the definition before my original post and my recommendation still applies.

I wasn't speaking of you.

Read the thread and you can see the obvious glaring examples of those who did not.

Based on the definition of disruptive technology, my ass-gaskets go way up the list.

Much cheaper than owning your own mobile bathroom, but not nearly as customizable, either.

How many people had/have their own mobile sh!tters?

I don't know, but if I used to have one, I'd have given it up for ass-gaskets?

The fact is that most new technologies start off with low performance and HIGH cost, not low cost.

I would say paper copying technology might fit the bill as a disuptive technology though, and the performance of today's photocopiers is getting very good; some are good enough to print money!

Most disruptive technology is digital currency. Once people dump fiat for digital currency governments around the world will lose a lot of power, including the U.S. government.

True, but they rapidly come down in proce and replace the older technology by being cheaper.

VoIP is a GREAT example. So are transiters.

Blow up dolls. Definitely much cheaper and less complicated than the real thing.

And over the years, technology has improved the product, well at least to HBO's Real Sex it has.
