I think I'd have to go with Super Mario Bros 2... I mean, it wasn't even a Mario game.

it was like the Halloween 3 of the Mario franchise.

I'm not sure if it's the most disappointing, but assassin's creed was such a let down. I was looking forward to it so much, and to finish it once and never have a reason to play the game again is really disappointing.

Hopefully the next Assassin's Creed can make up for it.

that is exactly what i was thinking about this gen. so boring and repetitive.

i'd also put gears2 up there.

mario 2 is a badass game even though it's not an original mario game. it's fun as hell.

I think you can put 90% of UBIsoft's games into that category. I didn't even finish AC before getting fed up with it. It made me sleepy. Prince of Persia was the same. Both were developed by the same studio so I'm not surprised.

The granddaddy of all disappointing games though has to be either E.T. or Pac-Man on the Atari 2600. Not many games have the dubious distinction of nearly destroying video gaming. Ok, maybe that's a little harsh but arguably they're what finally pushed the faltering market over the edge.

Probably not the #1 most disappointing of ALL time but it comes to the to mind right away:

Deus Ex:Invisible War for Xbox.

I bought it for Xbox instead of PC to give my Xbox more game time but it was absolutely terrible. Horrible low-res, washed out graphics and unacceptably choppy framerates. Even the basic act of moving or looking around was badly done and felt crappy.

I didn't even bother finishing much of it before I found it in a bargain bin for PC (it was better on PC but still disappointing).

Again, probably not #1 but personally I was very disappointed in Hellgate: London. You could see that it had incredible potential, but it was released too early (and thus was a bug-ridden mess) and some of the plot/dialogue needed major reworking. If only they had taken the time to do it right, that could have been a fantastic game.

EDIT: Oops, forgot I was in console gaming, but my comment still stands with respect to the PC.

Assassin's Creed does get somewhat repetitive, but I still enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the sequel - the cliffhanger was really annoying!

Assassins Creed, seriously? Not even close. You must be pretty new to gaming to think so, imo.

With so many games, its hard to say. Although, it is safe to say that E.T. would be close to the top. So bad it was, they had to bury millions of copies in a landfill because they couldnt sell them. Sad to say, I owned a copy.

This was more due to overproduction than the actual badness of the game

The biggest gaming letdown ever was Daikatana, maybe followed by the last Ultima game.

This thread is most dissapointing not worst game ever. For worst game ever, ET probably takes the cake.

For most disappointing, I'll have to agree Assassin's Creed. That game sounded so awesome I was eagerly awaiting it since it was announced. Then it was released and wow one of the most uninspired boring games ever. Other than graphics, it doesn't have much going for it. Unless you enjoy doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over.

You have to be hyped for something before you can get dissapointed....was anyone really hyped for ET?

I was pretty disappointed with KOTOR 2. I liked it less than the original in pretty much every area, and then it seemed obvious that they ran out of time to finish the story.

AC didnt have huge hype though. I dont understand how it can be viewed so badly... especially since it got good reviews. Yet with so many people claiming the same game, maybe Im the one who doesnt get it. I enjoyed the game. Monotonous? Sure, towards the end. Still enjoyable to me, especially considering its factual basis to the times, and places.

That was a PC game. But I agree, it was a huge let down.

For me, Tribes 2 was the biggest letdown. I was a HUGE (read: HUGE) fan of the first game. Played far too much, on ladders, in leagues, etc. We shoutcasted (its where it originated from) games, tourneys, etc. Tribes 2 was so terrible to Tribes 1 fans. UE's, numerous other bugs, the fact that they tried to make it slower because the devs got beat down, is annoying. Ugh, I still get mad thinking about it.

I was disappointed with Quake IV as well...Doom III was over-hyped a bit, I was disappointed there wasn't more MP action.

Sure it did, at least among gaming forum nerds. It wasn't Halo 3 or GTA IV hype, but based on pre-release info it was a pretty highly anticipated game.

I enjoyed it a lot myself, and there are many others who enjoyed it. Yeah, it's repetitive. Just about every game is. I'm glad I rented it though, because I don't expect I'll play it too many more times (I will buy it sooner or later, when I can get it really cheap)

I'm gonna have to join in on the Assassin's Creed hate. I bought that game for PS3 expecting soooooo much, and I still haven't made it through 20% of the game yet.

What? SMB2 is one of my favorite games of all time.

Biggest disappointment for me was Assassin's Creed.. was just hoping for perfection from that game. Other disappointments include: LAIR and Twilight Princess

I was severely disappointed in Warhammer Age of Reckoning
Funny thing is I'm playing through Assassin's Creed right now and looking for a reason to finish this steaming stinky turd.
You need to back the F off of Mario Brothers 2, game was awesome (also one of my top 20).
Problem with current gen console games is that they think they need amazing HD graphics to sell games and sadly that is where all the funding is going.

Super Mario Brothers 2 is my favorite of the SMB series, so screw you!

As for disappointing...

HL2: Ep1 was kind of disappointing.
Twilight Princess was pretty disappointing.
New SMB was even more disappointing.
Oblivion was probably my MOST disappointing video game purchase.

Quake Wars: Enemy Territory was a huge let down for me since i absolutely LOVED RTCW:ET (return to castle wolfensten: Enemy territory"

It's largely because I'm anti-vehicles in the BF2 type games and the lack of competitive player base :[

I've never played AoC, but from what I heard, that game must be pretty disappointing (it is PC though, not console)

In my opinion, assassin's creed is pretty high up there, but I think that Call of Duty: World at War takes the cake
for me because I was never hyped up for AC until a week before its release. I was hyped up for CoD:W@W for a long
time before its release, and it really sucked compared to CoD4 and and almost every other shooter.

Most disappointing game news for me was discovering the change of direction from Spaceworld 2000 Game Cube Zelda demo to the cel shaded Wind Waker. Granted, that game was actually really fun, so the game itself was not disappointing. However that tech demo was such a fucking tease and to make us wait all that much longer to have anything close like what we got with Twilight Princess was such a huge let down.

Well, yes. But I really don't think the biggest letdowns in gaming were on the console side, but rather on the PC. If the best that most of the people here can do is bitch that Assassin's Creed wasn't amazing, that's saying a lot for console gaming.
