ghosts and goblins by a wide margin. Honestly...having to beat the game twice taking ONE hit is ridiculous.

homeworld cataclysm on hardest level is a close second...I mean, come on, first mission and all I have are acolytes and ACVS WITHOUT EMP and they throw a freakin heavy cruiser at me!! And it just gets worse.

The hardest game I could remember playing was this one game for Nintendo, I believe it was called "The LastStarfighter", I think it was based after the movie. I very young when I played this game (maybe 6 or 7) just remember one hit, and I was dead. I couldn't get past the 1st level.

Another game that sticks out in my mind is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the Original Gameboy. Damn that game was hard. You had 4 lives (each turtle) until you beat the game, no extra continues. Once a character is dead, hes gone forever, and he wouldn't be healed when you played with that character again in a different level.

Parrappa wasn't a hard game. You're just not funky enough.

Contra wasn't that hard

I'd vote for Back to the Future (NES) - the only NES game to date I own that I haven't beat :| I swear that game is impossible

Project X for the Amiga. It would only allow you to start at a level if you had completed it, and you'd start without weapon powerups if you did, so it would be totally useless. The only way to reach the end of level 2 was by not dying once before that, and getting most powerups. You needed a widespread weapon for that, and therefor you couldn't reach the end of 2 with concentrated firepower. Once you reached the end of that level you'd get your ass kicked by a rediculously strong end monster, which most of your bullets wouldn't even reach.

Still wonder how hard level 3 and 4 would be.

NFL 2K3.

I can't put together a consistent drive that results in point. It is too easy to throw interceptions. I am talking 10-12 interceptions in 3 games with maybe 1-2 TDs. :(

That the one called 'Super Probotector: Aliens rebels' in all other continents? That was a great game, but I could complete it on demand.

Terminator 2 for Sega Genesis...it was the one where you had to use the light gun to shoot all of the terminators. One of the levels had you on the back of a truck while it was driving, and you had to not only defend yourself, but the truck, and civilians that were on the ground (and in your line of fire) all while moving and shooting at 100's of T-800s.

Battletoads on the NES was hard too. I went cross-eyed trying to pass the hovercraft-tunnel scenes. Also a top-down shooter game called Legendary Wings

I've made it to the very last level once (yes that last level is impossible), I rememebr ghosts and ghoblins I think I may have made it to lvl 5 or something, not very far. All the new current games are far too easy. Although being able to change difficulty on some of them can make them pretty rough
