Mr. Lonely by Bobby Vinton

Lonely, I?m Mr. Lonely
I have nobody for my own
I am so lonely, I?m Mr. Lonely
Wish I had someone to call on the phone

Now I?m a soldier, a lonely soldier
Away from home through no wish of my own....
That?s why I?m lonely, I?m Mr. Lonely
I wish that I could go back home

Letters, never a letter
I get no letters in the mail
I?ve been forgotten, yes, forgotten
Oh how I wonder, how is it I failed

Now I?m a soldier, a lonely soldier
Away from home through no wish of my own
That?s why I?m lonely, I?m Mr. Lonely
I wish that I could go back home.....

Roger Hodgson (former lead singer of SUPERTRAMP)- "Puppet Dance"

Why did you leave me all alone
Why didn't you tell me you were going home
Everything changes now you're gone
Making me wonder how to carry on

Over and over you gave to me
I wish I had told you what you meant to me
Why does it always have to end
Losing a loved one is so hard...

Oh my Lord, is it right?
By the light of the darkest night
You're never gonna see, you're never gonna see me
crying
Where's the warmth of the sun?
Was there something that I should have done?
Oh why did you have to leave,
Why did you have to leave me crying?

What I would give just to hear you laugh
All I have left is just a photograph
Oh to have known you all those years
Wish I had known how to dry your tears

Everything matters when you're young
Everything shatters when the day is done
Everything falters in the end
Losing a loved one is so hard...

Oh my Lord, is it right?
By the light of the darkest night
You're never gonna see, you're never gonna see me
crying
Where's the warmth of the sun?
Was there something that I should have done?
Oh why did you have to leave,
Why did you have to leave me crying?

So many feelings rushing in
It's too late for thinking how it could have been
Who knows the reason, was meant to be
It's going to be lonely, will you wait for me...?

Most any Cure or Depeche Mode song for me. There's a few Leonard Cohen songs that are really gloomy too. It's too hard to narrow it down to just one.

I agree with the guy above about Mogwai also. Or a few Godspeed You Black Emperor songs, as well.

'last kiss' by pearl jam.

oh, not by the song content. its depressing because it makes me realize i will never hear ten/vs-era pearl jam ever again.
Originally done by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers.

Pearl Jam's version is a cover.
yep. and they didnt do the original justice. my friends ate it up, but i guess they arent the big 60's-genre music fans like i am. another reason pearl jam's version depresses me.

<emo angst>
How could this happen to meeeeeeeeeeee
I made my mistakes
Got nowhere to run
The night goes on
</wrists>

Maybe not the most depressing, but judging by the number of emo-kid suicides, it's gotta be in the top 3. :D

I was gonna say the Johnny Cash remake of it. Expecially considering his life @ the time he did the song.

If it doesn't bring a tear to your eye I don't know what will.

Is that the same as the "New Path to Helicon, Pt. 1" track?

winner

And to those nominating James Blunt:

This thread is about the "most depressing" song, not the song "most likely to make you slah your wrists to make the pain stop and to find sweeet oblivion"

For reference:

Hurt (NIN & Johnny Cash)
I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
