several Eastern European countries that I've been to.

Also, I was in Amsterdam two years ago and after telling this black-toothed bum that I was American (he asked), he promptly made a gag-vomit noise at me and proudly proclaimed his dutchiness. lol

Also, Belgians. About as nationalistic as you can get. This is probably the most nationalistic Euro country that I've visited....well, maybe Switzerland. They are both nationalistic and annoyingly smug.

Hell, the ATOT kiwis are pretty retarded for NZ. ;)

Oh...and the French. Are you kidding me?

they're also the worst tourists.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8143780.stm

Absolutely not Belgium or France, not Switzerland either or most other EU nations but Serbia definently is, Russia isn't, Ukraine is, Romania isn't, Japan might be and Korea DEFINENTLY is, Norway might be.

But all in all, Amurikahhh Fuck yahhh! is probably still more nationalistic nationwide, that is, amongst its people.

Patriotic? A handful or so but not very many, they love that others are fighting for them and take pride in things they don't have the guts to do themselves but that is about it.

Yep they are pretty nationalistic, at least the proportion that have internet access to the west.

I'd not heard much of this recently, any links?

Probably under-reported in "Western Media"

They are fighting over a bunch of rocks. Japan detains a Chinese fishing boat captain in the vicinity of said rocks. Sparks huge reaction in China, full blown international incident was played down by both sides but the right wingers from both sides are getting really pissed off.

Most recent incident have Japanese right wingers surrounded and attacked Chinese tourist in Japan.

:D

I'm not seeing how some random bum in the Netherlands means Holland is more nationalistic than the USA.

The Belgians are really crap drivers but I wouldn't call them particularly nationalistic, their country has traditionally been the battlefield of Europe.

The Swiss however are very, very smug

yeah, I wasn't taking the filthy dutch dude too seriously. I doubt he was dutch, actually. :D

and JoS? not Russia? are you fucking kidding me? have you been amongst Russian communities living abroad? try to tell that to the Latvians/Lithuanians/Estonians that have to tolerate those large Russian communities begging to return their homes to Russian occupation. It's disgusting. That being said, those countries (Latvia, at least) are super fucking nationalistic. It's insane. kind of hard to blame them, though, as for 50 years simply possessing your nation's flag was an instant trip to the gulag.

not the French, not the Swiss? wtf....I love both countries, but the funny thing about the Swiss is how they wear their neutrality on their shirt. It's hilarious.

Thats been fairly heavily reported in the UK.

Its not the same as a nation being nationalistic though.

When there's a territorial dispute going on all the extremists crawl out.

The only thing that keeps Belgium together, or so they say, is their royal family. They absolutely have that pride somewhere. Sure, they seem to want to tear the country in half, but there is that "nation" that keeps them going.

Your differentiating nationalism and patriotism is apt, I'm just not sure why you don't see the same thing going on elsewhere--as that is exactly what seems to be happening. The French are insanely nationalistic, but I wouldn't really call them patriotic.

All in all, I see this like the red neck issue. Love them or hate them, every corner of the planet has them; just as you will so find the prideful arrogant.

The French are weird.

Now I'm British and have been at war with the French for far longer than we've been at peace with them.
Its hard to explain how the French think of themselves in the world, they don't compare themselves with others. They know they are right, and they really, really dont give a shit what anyone else thinks.

The Swiss are however very, very smug.

I think nationalistic pride can be a good thing at times, but I can never seem to muster it. I'm no good at caring about stuff that isn't really close at hand. A big, vague thing like a "sovereign nation" just doesn't cut it.

I also don't care about pollution, chinese sweatshops, rainforests, endangered species, child pornography, animal cruelty, spouse abuse, homeless people, gay marriage, and whether cheesecake is cake or pie.

I fully disagree that the French are nationalistic and not patriotic, i'd actually say you have the two concepts wrapped up in how the US interprets it (worship the flag, fuck the people) and that's not how any other nation sees it.

I couldn't care less about indians or pakis in the UK and i'll take a piss on the union jack any day, what the fuck does that have to do with anything? Should i be proud that i per mere coincidence happened to be born in the UK? Well if i'm supposed to i am not, i am proud over my own accomplishments and i am proud over my children (because i had something to do with that) but i'm not proud to happen to have been born a Jew or an Englisman because i had nothing to do with that.

Well, now take a look at me, and you and all of our countrymen, we know we're right and fuck the world if they don't agree.

We'd kick their arses if we really cared anyway.

I'm just going to say that while you shouldn't have empathy for the French, the Swiss are very very smug.

He included all immigrants to the US, that means everyone except the Native Americans.

How you could not get this is beyond me.

oh, i see. you're being a smart ass. got it now. see, since i was born here, and my parents were born here, i don't consider myself an immigrant. you are pretty funny tho.

(if I could import beer, schnitzel, and potato noodles from germany though, i'd do it in a second).

I get a lot of my german imported food from HEB. The one in my city has an excellent international selection. Imported german beer is easy for me to acquire, since they sell in the Class Six stores on the army base. And schnitzel... pfft, you can easily make that on your own.

:D

I just don't understand why german (or other european countries besides italy) cuisine isn't more popular.

I'd argue that the US is often too nationalistic.

The majority of the population seems pretty blind to some of the major problems in our country, such as poor education, healthcare, and a shrinking middle class. Instead of trying to solve any real problems in our country, we have become more concerned with claiming certain politicians hate America because they don't wear an American flag lapel pin.

If anything I think our nationalism may lead to our downfall. There are a lot of things other countries do better than us, but we are too proud to make any changes seen in other successful countries.

No, i'm stating a fact, you, like everyone else that is not a Native American is some form of immigrant.

That was the stated premise, ALL immigrants, not illegals, not legals, ALL immigrants.

Do you get it now or do i need to type slower for your stupid immigrant brain? Perhaps you don't understand the language i'm using?

Not only that, i've seen some people referring to SA, Pakistan, Iran and other third world nations as examples of what the US should try to become like.

Mostly it's about building a church in Mecca and how they would not allow that.....

Now trust me on the French thing... they're not patriotic, or at least really not in the way you guys see patriotism from a US point of view.

France believes they are shit. Therefore they will keep on improving and always second guess their government until they get what THEY want. The government works for them, and not the other way around. I'm expecting the whole Sarkozy thing to really blow up within the next few months; look at how many protests we've had recently.

I never met a single Frenchman (and believe me I have met a whole lot more Frenchman in my life than any other nationalities) who believed:
France was a nice enough place
France was 'THE BEST ZOMNGG!!!11' place as some Americans so thoughtfully put it
France was superior to any other place

Very right on about not giving a damn what others say. I wish more countries were liek that too. Mind our own business, don't impose our thougths or laws on others and take the world for what it is, while trying hard to change what we don't like about our own place.

Remember 9/11 and the explosion of American Flags everywhere? Let alone other more sever historical examples. When the chips are down we're about as nationalistic as anyone can get. Just takes something big to get us to that level. Outside of that you can find plenty of American nationalism on the 4th of July virtually anywhere.
