I'm 100% American and I don't give a shit about this country. It's not financially feasible for me to leave, unfortunately.

Nationalism and Patriotism suffer due to shitty self serving politicians and government.

While I do believe this country has some severe problems politically which are going to boil us alive in a couple of years, I would never move to another country to get away from it...for a job, sure I'd move. I have traveled europe extensively with my parents while growing up and sure the countries are nice, but I wouldn't want to live there (if I could import beer, schnitzel, and potato noodles from germany though, i'd do it in a second).

It is scary how quickly we give up our personal freedoms in the name of freedom, however I strongly believe that's due to a disjointed public not having enough cohesion to tell our lazy, fat politicians to get off their asses and do their jobs.

I lol'd & cried at the TV comment because of how true it is. It's amazing how quickly things go from being a privilege to a necessity for living in the US. TV, Cable internet, driving, cell phones, etc. Those are all privileges but everyone treats them as rights.

Sooo basically... the thread boils down "I Disagree, USA is patriotic" and those who agree.

... To the rest of the world it seems Americans are WAY too patriotic...

I for one did not chose where I was born and I feel pride would be a totally innapropriate feeling. I'm an expat and the only countries I could ever feel proud of, if any, are those I have chosen.

However I strongly reject the idea of patriotism.

I think the problem is that too much of the voter base will cast their vote solely based on which politician will give them the most money (read: socialism). We need more federally backed research (NASA, NSF, etc) and fewer handouts.

it's because we have too many immigrants, both legal and illegal. this is the truth no matter how un-PC it is to say.

I don't see this lack of nationalism as a problem. We're all humans after all. Why should we love the land and people on this side of an arbitrary border any more than on the other side?

When you're a white English speaking person overseas it pays to wear something identifying your country so people don't think you're an American.

I probably half 4 or 5 t-shirts with NZ designs - the NZ map has become a pretty trendy brand here :hmm:

Just like Canadians and the flag decals....they are everywhere....

Honestly...as much as I don't like other country's having bad opinions about Americans...I can't say I blame them.

Tons of people piss me off every day here, I can only imagine how irritating they might be when traveling to another country.

Just like I figure most people are perfectly normal regardless of nationality... I would hope that people from other countries realize the same about Americans.

...are you kidding? Coming from someone not American, I view Americans as the most nationalistic country on Earth. You should meet a Canadian if you want to meet nationalistic apathy.

If Canada died most Canadians would go 'oh.. that kind of sucks.. hmm.. is there still Timmys? ok, then we're fine'

lol, no. But US nationalism hit a huge spike post-9/11. Insane levels, sure...but the majority of us have gone back to our normal apathy.

it's the loudest and most obnoxious minority that you tend to see/hear.

Which countries would you say are more nationalistic than the USA then?

I think the richest country in the world can afford to be benevolent with a tiny, insignificant portion of its GDP.

just cause we afford it doesnt mean we should. or it should be taken for granted. spoken like a true beggar, lol.

several Eastern European countries that I've been to.

Also, I was in Amsterdam two years ago and after telling this black-toothed bum that I was American (he asked), he promptly made a gag-vomit noise at me and proudly proclaimed his dutchiness. lol

Also, Belgians. About as nationalistic as you can get. This is probably the most nationalistic Euro country that I've visited....well, maybe Switzerland. They are both nationalistic and annoyingly smug.

Hell, the ATOT kiwis are pretty retarded for NZ. ;)

Oh...and the French. Are you kidding me?

they're also the worst tourists.

:D

I'm not seeing how some random bum in the Netherlands means Holland is more nationalistic than the USA.

The Belgians are really crap drivers but I wouldn't call them particularly nationalistic, their country has traditionally been the battlefield of Europe.

The Swiss however are very, very smug
