chinkgai: "this thread needs a poll...dont feel like reading through four pages of it"

RELEASED Notes: None before 2003.

UNRELEASED Notes: I didn't include Unreal Engine 3.0 in the poll because it is not a title.

If there are any other titles exclusive to PC with real-time graphics that need to be added to the polls, just say so.

-------------------------Screens for UNRELEASED-------------------------
Quake 4
Quake 4
Quake 4

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

F.E.A.R.

Elder Scrolls 4

Battlefield 2

Age Of Empires 3

Even though it's an older game, I think Riven probably ranks up near the top as far as visuals and immersiveness go. Granted most of the visuals are static but it sure was a pretty game.

i dont see how hl2 could be on top, dont get me wrong it has fantastic graphics and water but i prefer farcry water and doom 3 engine has a much better shader

There's no "Game" yet, just some tech demos. The engine isn't even finished. Yes, it looks very pretty, but it's a little unfair to compare games that should be out this year to ones that might not be out until late 2006-2007. 😛

Finished: HL2, Why? Because it looks "Real" sure Doom3 has great shader-tech, and Far-Cry has uber goodness textures (or whatever) But HL2 looks Real. The gritty textures, fantastic animation and incredible sound design makes it feel like you are in the game.

Unfinished: AOE3, Why? I love RTS games, and I am a huge fan of the AOE Series (I didnt like Age Of Mytholagy, It just doesnt feel the same)

The unreal engine 3 looks sweet, Im d/l the movie now, but the pics look uber-hot

Although there isn't any actual unreal game being released, they are working on a different game using the engine. No name released last I checked, but I bet it'll be sweet. I think it might be an RPG too.

I vote HL2 and BF2. I haven't played farcry yet, might buy it soon since it's in the bargain bin, but HL2 is definitely better than doom3 in most respects(read: all). BF2 looks sweet in the video I watched, I will definitely get it. The others... not so much.

I hope an X800XL will be able to urn it...

When will any games with it be released?

Also, do any Vid cards support the upcoming Dx10?

I dont feel like upgrading again when it comes out...

Probably not, at least not anywhere near the detail settings of the demo they had (unless they make some massive speed improvements to the engine). A 6800U SLI was struggling to break 30FPS, IIRC, although that might have been at 1600x1200. You'd have to drastically scale down the detail and resolution to get it to work playably on today's graphics cards.

After it's done? They're saying at least 2006, maybe 2007.

Current ones? No, of course not. "DX10" (which may or may not be released with Longhorn in a year or two) isn't even finalized yet; how could anything "support" it?

I dont feel like upgrading again when it comes out...

Keep in mind that we're talking *years* from now.

F.E.A.R. deserves more votes than it's gotten. That is one incredible looking game. Absolutely gorgeous. It's definitely on my must-have list.

Horray! A thread in my honor. I vote for Farcry. Hl2 looked freakin' geougeous, but that was on gf2 hadware (6800 ue rma).
*insert Zoidberg noises*

i guess FC just edges out doom iii . . . . then Chron of Riddick, HL2, PK and Thief DS -in order of gfx excellence -of the games i have/am playing.

"amazing" how the gfx has nothing to do with gameplay 😉

and ALL of the above have eXcellent gfx not experienced even 18 months years ago . . . .

Holy Crap! I just watched the Unreal Engine 3 Demo... And let me tell you... I have never been more impressed with a tech demo.

The previous Unreal Engines were used by many games right? I just hope to see a few games with this tech. I noew decided to Get an XL. Why? So when I can purchase a new card to run any Game with this tech, It wont feel so bad to discard an Incredibly expensive card.

Omg, I cannot stop thinking about that demo, I have never seen such amazing lighting. When will the first game with this tech be out?

The physics look fantastic too, I believe they rival, even improve apon the ones used in HL2, or any other game for that matter.

I cant wait for a game to be used with this tech, Is anything planned? And is there any talk about when this Engine will be don?

*Gushing ends*

dit: Bonus points for that demo, for teaching me how Normal Mapping is done

Thus far, I think Half-Life 2 has had the best art direction of any game I have ever seen, thus making it the most pleasing to the eye. Once again, it is proven that it's not the size of the engine...it's how you use it.

For all the technical ability that the Doom 3 engine has over the Source engine, Doom 3 still doesn't look as good. Reason? Mediocre artists and art direction.

next year . . . . probably late '06 . . . about the same time DX10 is released
(more-or-less)

i voted EQ2 for released games. imo it has much better textures then HL2, D3, and FC plus it has excelent shaders. plus, the poll wasnt on how well a game worked....Eq2 is a TOTALL bs system hog but it looks the best imo.

for unreleased i voted AOE3. thats the first time that game makers have bothered to give RTS'es totally relistic DX9 graphics, kudos.

I would love to see you play a game with Unreal Engine 3.0, since so far a 6800 Ultra can run it at medium settings only at 15fps.

Did you even read what I said afterward? I said Id get an XL, so when I upgrade to a $600+ card in 1 year or so (whenever the First UE3 comes out) I will get rid of a $300 card, instead of a $600< (Like an Ultra)

I'm curious about something here.

To me, is it just me, or does Quake 4 barely look different than Doom 3. Yet somehow Doom 3's graphics suck, but Quake 4's graphics are competitive for next gen.
