We get it, you're old, and I don't care about how you had 6 kids, or why your job at the local mill sucks.

And yes, the people who sit there and ask way too many questions when it would be better to get some one-on-one for the question and answer session--yes, they annoy the sh!t out of everyone. Probably themselves even. But I can't see how that is limited to older adults going back to school. The same applies to the kid who just got out of college and is showing up to his first job--he does the same shit. :)

I fvcking hate those kind of people... mostly because they're too set in their ways to listen to the prof and end up constantly fighting with them; losing horribly and wasting my fvcking time.

The solution is simple. Do not go to college. :p

I know when I started College at the age of 29 I annoyed some of the younger students because I got straight A's and they didn't mainly because I studied my ass off and was generally more disciplined. I also had little to do with some of them unless they could be of benefit in a study group. Of course if I was carrying them I usually told them to fsck off and find someone else to study with. As ofrfor the older students, well they seemed more interested in learning than telling stories of their glory days or partying and acting like morons like some of the younger students. Of course I enjoyed any fellow student who worked hard and had a good head on their shoulder no matter what age they were.

My point is, don't stereotype.

He's talking about the ones that constantly ask annoying questions, make crappy jokes, and pretty much make themselves the center of attention during class. Nobody likes those people. I don't care how old you are, I don't need to hear about every little thing you're thinking of.

yep...it's not just the older adults, some can be very chill.

I prefer to think of myself as the chill type. I never ask questions, I keep my mouth shut and I try real hard not to look old because when I was taking a College Algebra class, the fresh out of high school students kept asking me questions thinking I was a TA or professor. If I let my hair get more than a 1/2" long or so, my grays really start to show.

My main complaint is their constant ass kissing and excessive questioning drags the hour and 15 minute class out to an hour and a half every damn day, which always resulted in me being late for the next class. Maybe you go to one class a day and can't hold it in until the period is over, but I have other sh|t I gotta do. And the professors...oh they just love it when some middle aged dumbass hangs on their every word, so they just eat this sh|t up. STFU, I'm never going to use MLA format after I get out of here and neither are you so stop dragging this out for all of us. I just want to get in, zone out for 75minutes, and get out.

.....

I wonder why you went to classes in the first place?

You automatically failed a class if you had four or more absences.

That is why I can't wait to go to college. I actually get to learn something while all the little college kids are there because they think it is an extension of high school.

hahaha, I've had my share of experiences with those people. Most are pretty cool but I took this geology class and there was a woman who laughs obnoxiously over the littlest things, and this other woman (both in their 40s-50s)... well here is the story.

Physical Geology class, she was supposed to give a presentation for something that is related to geology and she gave a presentation on aluminum. Absolutely horrible presentation accompanied with self-written crap piano/organ music that drove me nuts. Had not much to do with geology and it wasted a good 15 minutes of class. After the presentation I said something along the lines of "you should've focused more on geology in your presentation, this isn't a manufacturing class about the use of aluminum". Supposed the lady weeped or cried a little Felt kinda bad afterwards but then I don't really care.

I don't give a crap if you had your kid when you were 18 or for whatever reason you can't go to college, be it money or drugs or whatever. I expect quality class time from the money my parents and I paid for. Wasting time on your stupid sh!t isn't beneficial to my education and I'll gladly critique it. Note that most older adults aren't that way, but the small portion of them that wastes people's time needs to STFU.

Because the talk about their life experiences that are irrelevant to class materials is a waste of time.

As a prof, I must say that I can see both good and bad in what is being said. I've had several older students, and they are usually better students, because they want- to be there, instead of 'having' to be there. I've also had some that carry on excessively, but I usually cut them off and tell them to talk to me later (which they rarely do). I don't put up with butt-kissers, they don't affect me in any way.

For those of you who say 'don't waste my time', then don't come to class. I don't take attendance, and I could care less if you blow off my class. Just don't miss a test day! The people who think its a waste of time to interact, are the ones that aren't interested in learning. Coming to class is about participation, and if you don't participate, then what's the point?!? Stay home and play with your Xbox.

College kids don't "have" to be there either. They're adults... or "legal adults" that don't really take up the responsibilities as real adults do.

Weren't we all like that though?
I'm sure when he's 30, he'll realize how incredibly stupid 18 year olds are.

Maybe older students ask more questions because they are more serious about learning. They are doing it because they really want an education, not just because it's what they're supposed to do after HS.

By the way, I got my CS degree at the age 30 and graduated with honors. I almost never said a word in class while incredibly stupid 18-20 yr olds would spend 10 minutes asking questions and trying to understand the most basic concepts.

My wife is 31 and she's in college and maintaining a 4.0.

Exactly. You are irritated that they care about learning while you do not.

Is your mom still letting you use her minivan to get to and from class?

I remember in my second semester, many years back, there was this guy that was in his fifties trying to get a degree in computers. He couldn't grasp the concept of programming, so instead of trying to learn the way he needed to do it, he spent the entire class arguing with the teacher and telling the rest of us this and that just doesn't make any sense. I'm talking about simple stuff, like a "variable".

I certainly wouldn't call them the most annoying people in the world. The most annoying people in the world are those who constantly bitch about gas prices :)

LOL, yeah. But at least those people are just wasting their own time, not mine.

You automatically failed a class if you had four or more absences.

This is where you challenge the class, take the final right now, pass, and stop going to class.
