The application you link to is a simple sinus generator. Simple cosine waves are not very irritating at lower levels.

When you start generating harmonics, things change.

We have an "ultrasonic" pigeon (pest bird) repelling system that I find quite annoying if I'm near the field it produces. I recorded its waveform in the past and play it back and most people can hear it - especially at loud levels. 50V into a piezo driver with a large horn is quite effective. :Q
