I was all for Biden but after watching the reality of getting old, after watching Mitch almost die right on camera, I now definitely do not want Biden to run for a second term. Definitely not.

#1 Joe is too old. He's showing his age daily. Joe is not far from McConnell's condition. And trust me people, you will not want to see the president of the United States reenact what happened to Mitch McConnell.

Think about it.
President Biden is in his second term, meeting with some foreign leader, Joe goes to the podium and freezes staring into space, then must be taken away from the podium by staff with Joe having no idea were he is or of what is going on.
Nor do we want to wake up and the first thing we hear on the news is that president Joe Biden died last night of a stroke, or had a stroke. I think democrats can do much better than with Joe. No one man nor woman is bigger than the office of the presidency itself. And don't worry about Trump, he's an old fart too, he's never going to be president again. But don't tell him that.

I know old people. My dad is 94. He has been in physical rehabilitation after physical rehabilitation and it never helps because old people, and I'm talking late 80's into 90's, but old people just keep getting worse. Their bodies fail, their minds fail. There is no such thing as getting better or getting stronger or getting back to where one was a year ago. Nature does not work that way. Old people like Mitch, like Biden, like Grassley, like Feinstein do not get better, they only get worse. We don't want to see Joe Biden go thru that, not as president, not on camera.

Surely democrats have better candidates, younger candidates, capable candidates in the party who could not only run in 2024 but would actually win in 2024.
It should never come down to a case of either Joe, or no one.
Still miles better than Trump.

I wouldn't wish a stroke or other crisis on McConnell, as it's a pretty horrible thing to endure. But this sudden surge of health issues suggests it's time for him to go, and I certainly won't miss him. He's a key architect of Republican obstructionism and a general decay in bipartisanship.
I would. But I would rather it was AIDS.

The obstructionist torch he so skillfully wielded will of course be passed on to his successor, for without any intent to prioritize the needs of the middle class and the poor all McConnell and the party he hails from have to pursue is their proven desire to keep the class warfare against the working stiffs of the nation going in perpetuity, The GOP one trick pony is relying on keeping their working class voters dumbed down and compliant by repeatedly feeding them a diet of lies, misinformation and incredulously fantastic conspiracy jokes.

Telling people they're special because they're white has worked for 400 years here, no reason for them to stop now.

There's a general sickness in this country where we can watch this stuff and the first thing almost no one agrees to talk about is: why do we live in a country where we expect people totally fucked up on age and very real injury to just go out and do their jobs like that, in any capacity?

Dude is old as sin and royally fucked through his noggin and maybe spine. I hate that evil piece of cvnt, but as a general rule, we shouldn't live in a country where it is considered normal to cart out corpses for the clown show, in any capacity of any job anywhere.

It's fucked.

Hard for me to feel bad for the guy given what he's done to America. This fossil decided to keep a high stress job with failing health, has gleefully fucked American institutions into disasters. If he was a good person with an honorable career of service perhaps I'd feel differently, but no, Moscow Mitch is cordially invited to fuck off and can proceed directly to a bigger stroke. Lukewarm, restrained objections to some of what Trump has done is supposed to make me feel sorry for the guy? Uh, no

Dude this is a dumb take. Think about it. Biden is old and I wish the Dems had the fucking stones to get some fresh blood in the primaries, but they don't.

Either way, Joe Biden is 100 million times better of a choice than anything the GQP has, so get out and vote, and get everyone you know who is sane to get the fuck out and vote next year, Biden and all the down ballot tickets.

It’s not entirely sarcastic - we have people in congress on Alzheimer’s and other drugs for very serious conditions. People, in some cases in critical roles. It’s insanity! There was an expose’ on this some years ago, can’t remember the publication. Should be a way to toss these people out on medical grounds, but there is no such procedure that I’m aware of.

Not necessarily, and probably not. But it's not as if things are going to improve by keeping McConnell around for much longer; any jerks who will replace now will likely replace him later, too.
His replacement would be a junior Senator, and not be the top Republican in the Senate. I believe the current #2 is John Thune, who has similar politics but may be less corrosive to our governance.

While I wouldn't accuse McConnell of treasonous behavior such as inciting insurrection or espousing The Big Lie, it can't be overstated that blocking Obama's Constitutional nomination of Merrick Garland is extremely high on the scale of dirtbag behavior. On the flip side, the way they pushed through Kavanaugh also reflects very poorly on the GOP's Senators. While SCOTUS would still have a 5-4 conservative majority if not for Mitch, that would be a very different pivot point for the court. Mitch's theft of a SC seat could stand for a generation, with unpopular decisions such as Dobbs likely to hang around even longer.

It's hard to compare the damage Trump did in one term vs. what Mitch has done as Majority Leader, but the decisions of SCOTUS's radical majority will reverberate for decades.

The sarcastic part is that "it rules". It does not, in fact, "rule".

I vote in every single election for the lesser evil, provided that lesser evil has a chance of winning. Every one. In much the same fashion, I pick the best route home through rush hour traffic because I have to get home--none of them may be pleasant, but it has to be done, so I go with the least-painful one.

See, voting is easy.

Applying that to the upcoming election, what are my choices?

Biden or Trump. Trump is going to be the GOP nomination unless he dies. Let's say he does--not one of the remaining candidates do I not despise almost as much as Trump. None of their platforms are any better to me--I disagree with Trump on almost everything and same with the rest of them. If I disagree with Biden on half his plank, that's a vast improvement. It's simple math.

I don't like the fact that Biden is old, but I'm not throwing away my vote in protest. I didn't need to learn this lesson, but the Supreme Court is there to teach us what happens when you throw a vote away like a lot of Bernie supporters I know did. No worries, you'll only be dealing with Kavanaugh for what, 40 more years? And there's climate change. Biden can't turn all that around, but even doing nothing is better than speeding it up.

You forgot to also include that when the exact same scenario he used to deny Obama's appointment ("the Biden rule") arose for Trump, he said "we'll be filling that seat immediately".

Was sympathetic until he repeatedly brought up Biden's "sandbag" when asked about the what happened. Even after Biden reached out to him. That is deplorable stuff. Fux Mitch.
Ah, I was wondering what that was about that. It doesn't seem to make much sense though but as per usual, I've probably missed the plot.

On a related topic, poor old Feinstein had some problems today too. It's hard to tell if she actually knows what's going on. I think it might be the sort of dementia where peeps have lucid and "less lucid" moments. But I'm pretty sure she's not all there all of the time.

I didn't forget, I just didn't feel like mentioning Mitch's rank hypocrisy. Partisan politics aside, at least I can't say that ACB is unqualified to be a high court justice. OTOH not only did Kavanaugh lie under oath to Congress earlier in his career, he comported himself terribly during his confirmation hearings. We know it was political theater, but the entire proceeding was pretty disgusting.

I thought ACB never presided over a case before she was appointed to SCOTUS. That doesn't scream qualified.

Wasn't there some scuttlebutt going 'round the Democrat bullpen about having Biden beat Trump again and sometime after the midterms have his #2 take the baton handoff lickety-split?

Probably, but Uncle Joe does plan to run again. And just a quick word on his age. He looks frail because he has arthritis - shocker. So that's the cause of the stiff gait. And honestly, I really hate to see it because it just solidifies that frail image. But he's out biking every morning, more or less I'm sure. No idea of how many miles and not clear why he can do that and seems to have such trouble walking, but by all accounts, he's apparently quite fit. He would definitely kick my ass (pretty low bar).

edit - you're gonna be getting shit from us boomers for quite a while. And for every one that dies off, the rest get louder. OK, pretty empty threat I suppose.

I'd vote for a half eaten sandwich for president over any GOP candidate. The sandwich at least wouldn't make the country worse.
