If he doesn't know enough about computers to fix it himself:
Boot with a Windows 9x disk, and type FDISK /MBR
His data will be there still, and offer to fix it if he stops using the disk. (This is presuming he is using Windows 2000 or XP)
You can fix it by running his illegal, stolen copy of the Windows CD again.
Windows 9x: Run FDISK, and make another partition active. It won't boot anymore until the primary is active again.
