It's just like the saying "for every action there's a reaction" There's no way to prevent cancer. Excersing and being healthy certainly does not. My theory is, you should just live your life how you want because if some higher power wants you to get cancer, you're going to get it regardless. And I say this from personal experience.

A higher power has informed you that you're going to get cancer?

Can't fault that logic 😉

LoL, now that I read it I see how it came across. Any way, I meant more so than MJ. Plus, rh71 wasn't even talking about MJ, just that he doesn't smoke or drink. It was skoorb who said he enjoys beers.

So - basically what I meant was, people who are drinking have a better chance of being in an accident caused by drinking. Whether its them or not.

Back when I had so many late nights, I can't even begin to describe the amount of cars I drove on the street with that scared the Sh~t out of me. Weeving back and forth.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- More than 60 percent of all cancer deaths could be prevented if Americans stopped smoking, exercised more, ate healthier food and got recommended cancer screenings, the American Cancer Society reported on Thursday.
And yet most people continue to overeat and not exercise, which is why I so frequently make the statement that people are stupid. That's something interesting to me that from one species you can have people who are intelligent and able to effectively reduce their chances of sickness, cancer, etc. through conscious efforts on their part, and then you can also have individuals of that species who are incapable of doing anything to really better themselves, and total slaves to their wants and desires. I have to say it's nice being part of the first group  😛

Tell this to my mother-in-law who is on her last legs from fighting a brain tumor.

Very few people in this world ate as healthy as her or excersised as much.

My grandma did the following every single day since she was young.....

drank coke

smoked cigs 3 packs a day

ate junkfood and junkfood only

never exercised

watch tv all day

sleep all day

etc.

And she lived to be 90.

I think 59% of cancer victims had it coming regardless. I believe "Genes" play a 99.9% role in the developement of cancer. It's unavoidable.

survival of the fittest, literally

Has little to do with it.

The vast majority of cancer cases kill AFTER the person has reached breeding age and had offspring.

Cancer exists generationally because it usually kills AFTER procreation instead of before.

I think it's been reamed open by the Greenpeace activists enough that he hardly felt it. 😛

Life causes cancer.

Forgive me if I side more with modern science than your theory and personal experience, when choosing a lifestyle approach.

Brush up on your statistics 🙂

Regardless of what you believe, you're wrong. Genes do not play a role in 99.9% of the development of cancer. Again, I'll side with modern science before the anecdotal experience of individuals.

I have been saying that we've known the cure for cancer for decades.

Granted, there are many types of cancers, but.. the gist of it is..

If you don't want cancer, don't expose yourself to carcinogens!

Doesen't mean she wasn't exposed to carcinogens.

Impossible. There are carcinogens in just about everything we drink, eat, breath or touch. Even the sunlight.

Carcinogens are just like every other "poison." It's the dose. It's also genetics.

Not stupid really...Some things really need to be drilled home... You're feed images all day long about junk food, tobacco, "taking it easy"... need similar input from other end if you expect results.

I think it starts early. Need 2 hours of gym class a day in school instead of all that book learnin', athletes get this no problem, voluntarty, after school. I'd institute it for every school child.

Plus sports teaches real life lessons better than any class... teamwork, networking, compitition which you'll find very beneficial in real world.

When many Americans still do not know English, I think it's a bad idea to have two hours of gym class -- which in grade school usually mediocre at best.

Well, obviously. I was talking about things that are under your control...

"Don't expose yourself to carcinogens."

Just because a portion of the exposure is unavoidable doesen't mean we should all be taking gasoline baths every night, ya know? 🙂

Edit: And before someone comes in and tells me what an idiot I am because of all the children dying from cancer, and the adults too... "But they lived healthy, I SWEAR!"

I am aware of that. There are many, many different types of cancer. Not only are there many types of cancer, there are many reasons why any given type of cancer may form. If that doesen't complicate matters enough, our genetics also throw more variables into the mix. So obviously you can't lump them all into the same group, "Caused by carcinogens.".

But the article says 60%. I'd say thats a good figure. 😉

Completely agree. This is absolutely retarded.

One day we'll come up with CONCLUSIVE evidence that cell phones cause cancer. There's just something about 2.4 Ghz that close to your brain that makes it logical to me. But then again, I could have told you smoking was bad for your lungs LONGGG before it become the nationally accepted "belief". Its just so obvious.

"Smoking is bad for you" "DUHH, you thought inhaling smoke was going to be good for you?" Idiots.

So what are we going to do ONCE that happens, not if. Stop using cell phones?

I'm a smoker and I could care less if you think your better then me. Or have some other ignroant beliefs that make you believe you'll live longer then I will. The fact is, that lots of people in my family have smoked and none of them have died from cancer. The only case of cancer in my family was my grandma and breast cancer, which she recovered from.

Would you be suprised to know that the oldest women currently alive in the world, and who will break the record, and lived in Pakistan - was a HUGGE drinker, smoker, and even an Opium smoker her whole life. Why didn't she die from cancer? Now bare in mind I'm not making an argument that smoking won't kill you or cause cancer, only that there is absiolutely NO WAY to know. It has as much to do with your genetic make up then your life style.

I just laugh at the irony that befouls people, they'll spend their whole lives eating right, never having a ciggerette or a spliff, or no alcohol. And then they'll die in a car crash, or they'll end up going Postal from too much stress. Hey bud, you could have relieved that stress if you'd had a beer occasionally, or you could have avoided that car crash if you were at the bar or at home smokin' spliff. No seriously, its funny to me.

There's a difference between truly living, and staying alive.

Just so you know, while you're hooked on thier "stress reliever", which BTW is downward spiral: coffee, cigs, alchohol whatever...the Phillp Morris hiers are living in a massion in the Hamptons, flying the jet set at your working expense. That right there is enough to make me not want to engage in addictive costly behavior. They are living the high life, you are paying for it. They will have the best doctors while they whack 10 min off your life for every cancer stick. They go skiing in Swizterland every week, while you can't even run a mile. I just don't understand paying for the priviledge for someone to kill you and making them rich.

Why don't they mention overexposure to the sun? Skin cancer is very bad. Not to ignore smoking, obesity, etc., but using sun block or otherwise modifying exposure to sun is very simple and straightforward.

Because they haven't found a way to tax, regulate or ban the sun.

But you can bet they can and will do that to anything else deemed "bad."
